These are the photos of the book finished.

The owner of the book wanted the arabesque gilded and his name engraved on the bottom.

The binding has this Medieval look with nerves on the spine.

For the endpapers, I used a Bomoart paper that looks like a vintage map.

The book had escartivanas to open better. Also, he is going to be including photos in his writings, so I made the escartivanas thicker. When the book is empty it doesn't look that good, but when it is full it will look fine. If I hadn't done that, the book would have looked well now, but when filled with pictures it would remain open and look bad.

The book fits in a box I made for it with black cloth and the same Bomoart paper on the front.

***clasps hands together in anticipation***

I want to thank Anna for all her patience as I am sure I was a bit on the picky side when we were figuring out how to make this book. I think my last count was 57 emails back and forth! She has been a delight to work with!

It's purpose is to be our baby book and hopefully will be filled with writings and pictures as our child grows and will become a present to them upon adulthood. I've already got a stack of stuff to put in it!

I'll share a few more pics once there are a few things in it so people can get a feel for what it will be like with photos and such as the escartivanas might be new to some folks (they were to me!).

I can't wait for it to get here!

Stunning!!!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Oh, don't worry about that, the important thing was that you knew all the options available and ended up getting what pleased you the most!

I'd love to see those pics!! I am used to only see my books in blank and it would be really nice to see how they turn out with time!!

Anna,

Your work is lovely as always. I really want another journal, even though I haven't started using the first two.

Esther

It's nice to hear that, Esther! Thank you very much for your kind words ^_^ I'd be pleased to make another journal for you, when you want :P.

Today I will share a couple of pictures with you. First, a work in progress picture. Then, some pictures of the journal finished.
Anyway, it is a Ethiopian style with brown leather and a vintage Bomoart cover that I love (I am torn between the balloon one and the map one, they are both so pretty!!). It was made back in January, but I've been sick for the last two weeks and things have acumulated (no worries, I am 90% better now).

The colors of that last one are lovely! They go extremely well together. The balloon paper goes well with almost any color I believe! Where do you buy your leather?

I sold some of the Bomo Art journals I had (not a huge fan of the leather they use) and bought some of the "wrapping" paper instead because it's really awesome. I hope it's good to work with too but I'm optimistic.

Your blog has tempted me to try a springback book. It looks awfully complicated though, what do you say, is it a huge challenge?

I love that balloon paper, it is my favourite :D I have had no trouble working with that paper :).

I got my leather in Mexico when I lived there. I got a lot of leather because it is cheaper and the quality is great. When I ran out of it, I plan to get it from a leather factory in Spain I've been told about. I know someone who purchased in person there and the leather they brought back was great (and good price, too), so I plan to call them when I need leather and see how we can arrange it.

I've never seen a Bomoart journal in person, so I wouldn't know.

About the Springback, I think with your knowledge you should be able to make it. However, mind that the structure has many steps, many layers, and it takes time. It takes me about 9-10 hours to complete each Springback journal.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
