Sailor Shigure Ink - Issues With Flow

Hello everyone,

 

I absolutely love the Shigure colour from sailor seasons ink, perfect blend of purple, blue, and black for everyday writing.

Unfortunately, for some odd reason (and very un-sailor like) the ink misbehaves allot!

 

Firstly, the ink does not have have good flow at all, and often causes skipping when writing long sessions. (tried it on 4 different pens: 3 wet and juicy flow, 1 drier flow pen)

Second, the ink seems to dry up really quick when at the nib+feed. It has difficulty starting in many of my pens if left uncapped, even for a very short period of time.

 

Anyone else experiencing this? Or is this just the bottle of ink I received?

I really love this colour but due to its misbehavior, I end up not using it at all...

Mkim, my experience with shigure has been smooth. Inked in several pens, and have not observed issues like the ones you've described.

My experience with Sailor Shigure has been that it dries very quickly at the nib and feed when the pen is uncapped and not being used.

 

Flow-wise it seems fine in the pens I've used it in. Sailor Blue is another Sailor ink I've found to evaporate really quickly (24 hours) even in a capped pen, so that the next time I use the pen it gives a more saturated line for the first couple of sentences.

 

Of course, these probems could be limited to the bottles I have. One Sailor ink that has not caused me any problems so far is Sailor Blue-Black, my default for a go-to ink from this brand.

Yeah, it did it to me too, but I live in the desert, write with obscenely broad nibs and pause between thoughts. Keep a dish of water on your desk and dip as needed.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

actually now thinking back, Diamine regency blue might not be a bad replacement, although it does have less red I think...

Also, I use seriously wet pens.

 

Yes, I have several inks similar to Shigure. I think Sankodo Nishikisan is a great replacement with NO flow issues.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
