New Wahl-Eversharp Decoband

The Washing ton DC, San Francisco and Dallas Pen shows saw the regional unveilings of the all new WAHL-EVERSHARP Decoband pneumatic filling Super-flex pens. The Rosewood and Black Ebonite prototypes were ready to show but there was not enough time to make the Lapis Blue Marble. All we had to show as a short polished rod of the Lapis Marble Acrylic material out of which the pens would be made ( and we only had enough of that material to produce maybe 300 pens!) The amazing thing to us was that with only that small sample of Lapis Blue Acrylic to show we took almost as many orders for the Blue pens as we did for the Rosewood. Well, now that production is nearing completion on the first batch of pens we finally have the Lapis Blue Marble pens available to show. Here are the 3 normal production pens grouped together in one photo. (They are all the same Oversize size but the depth of field in the first photo makes the Lapis pen seem even larger. The second picture is more realistic.

The Superflex #8 14K nibs are now accompanied by an true fine semi-flex nib choice too. And the very popular Demonstrator will become a Dealer-only or Very limited edition in 2016.

Very nice looking pens. With a "semi-flex" nib, even better. What's the price range, I wonder?

BTW, the cap band reminds me of the Aurora "Auroloide" Optima cap band. I couldn't get a really good look though.

Any thoughts?

Wow very nice looking pens. Has anyone done a review of the the superflex nibs?

See post #13 and #15: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/296176-saw-the-wahlnut-decobands-todaya-good-day/

From limited writing at the SF show, I feel it is a modern semi flex nib. I liked it to a 1950s/1960s MB #9 nib. I think it has more "snap" than say the Pelikan M1000 size nib which feels softer or mushier to me. I believe the nibs at the show were 18K but the production nibs are going to be 14K.

I am sure there will be more detailed reviews soon as the pen is a few weeks away from release. I already purchased mine as I found it to be a fairly unique offering in modern pens.

MSRP is $850 - it can be found on the company website.

I really should have went to the pen show

It sounds like a great pen. Is the section as fat as a 149? That might be a deal breaker for me.

It's pretty similar if I recall. The barrel is 18MM and then tapers to the nib, but not dramatically. It's a "beefy" pen but the weight is well distributed, assuming you are not posting the cap.

These pens look great! :D

They are what the Parker Giant oversize should have become but didn't because companies like Newell Rubbermaid are run by accountants and lawyers, not by creative, enthusiastic and passionate people. I've been waiting for a true Duofold oversize pen for decades and what do Newell do? They come out with this mega expensive monstrosity: http://www.parkerpen.com/en-US/duofold-giant-125th-anniversary

You need to sell your house to buy this pen.

I've ordered the Lapis Blue directly from the Wahl website. I just hope they haven't already sold out of the blue acrylic rod.

I have one question: is there any chance they could get some other colours?

My recollection is that other colors are planned, but I was not given dates nor colors.

I have one question: what is the semi-flex nib like, as opposed to the superflex?

The superflex seems like a F or XF to me when not flexed, but I've seen on the Wahl website that the semi-flex is 'extra fine'. Is it finer than the superflex?

I would be interested to know if there is a difference, other than the flexiness.

The semi starts narrower and does not go as wide.

Thanks. In my opinion the superflex nib seems fine enough, so I'll stick to this choice.

It's a truly great nib and the pen is fantastic! :)

For the cost of the pen it should be fantastic.

That said, it is great to see and hear of an expensive pen that really delivers value for the investment.

Congratulations Syd for delivering a well reviewed and well received fountain oen.

Now if I could only afford to buy one of these myself...

I really love the idea of owning this pen one day. It reminds me of Bexley from years back when they tried to bring out amazing pens, including the Prometheus with an awesome Bock #8 nib. I hope that Wahl-Eversharp becomes a successful brand once again. It seems to be in good hands.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
