Hi Guys

 

Just wanted to share with you the latest addition to my collection. after looking at richardspens and penhero sites im 95% Sure this is a 1950-51 TM Triumph. I Can't resist a nice gold filled pen

Yours looks in better shape than mine, although like Claudette Colbert, it holds itself in such a way that the dimples above the clip don't show.

I know what you mean about the gold pens, too-- I thought they were over-ostentatious... until I had one in hand.

Mine has a small dimple in the cap too. Just the angle of the photos don't show it.

 

Once i have the pen in gold i also try to get it in silver. Its a shame Sheaffer did not do a sterling silver model.

Very handsome pen. First Thin Model item appears in '49, I believe. Things got skinny for a decade or so during the '50s; then the PFM appeared, briefly bringing back the larger pen shape.

Nice find and as already mentioned a good looking pen. A bit later than suggested , last quarter '50 to last quarter '52. Some have gold plated threads ( as shown in the ad) and some have chrome as yours does, don't know if they came with chrome or they're replacements, I don't think it matters much though. Also came in solid gold ( bottom pen).

I would love to own a sold 14k gold pen, however a bit outside of my price range. I too wondered about the cap thread (either way not a big deal). I was reading on penhero about this pen and you can see it in the photos too the gold filled metal is an overlay over a black plastic barrel. I wondered if this pen was originally intended to be a black pen and Sheaffer for whatever reason have turned an ordinary pen into a gold filled pen. Or just replaced over the years.

Indeed the pencil remained the same between the TD and TM TD but I don't recall seeing a first model gold filled TD or a gold filled lever filler, the Masterpiece from that era was a lever.

Yes, these are metal over plastic and the barrel seems to be a standard black one.

To clarify, the Thin Model gold filled pencil is around in 1949.

There are two different ballpoints that partner the TM TD though, the same as in the initial TD line with screw cap and a later slip cap that carried through to the Snorkel line.

The TM TD Masterpiece also came with two different pencils, the carry over from the previous lever fill and a Thin Model (pictured).

I have an identical gold-filled touchdown TM like the one the OP posted. The barrel on mine was originally loose and was rotating around the plastic barrel beneath it. After I had it secured, it writes great. Mine is in user-grade condition, but still a real looker.
