Why All In One Sub-Forum

In need of a little forum history here.

Why are the Japanese "Big Three" (Pilot, Sailor, Platinum) mixed into one sub-forum, whereas the "Teutonic Trinity" (Montblanc, Pelikan, Lamy) divided into 3 sub-forums?

Good question. One upside however is that we get some good comparison's between all brands without raising a flame war (not that it happens in the sub forums).

It has to do with how FPN evolved from the early days to the present. There was never a pre-determined plan when FPN started and once forums sprang up it is hard to get rid of them. The whole thing grew organically due to many factors including different regimes in charge of FPN. I don't particularly like talking about this topic and it was one of the (many) reasons I left FPN. Feel free to do a search on the many topics I posted about this in the past.

Oh, great !

FPN administrators are going to receive subpoenas for a Senate committee hearing. Everyone, who uses an European -made fountain pen, will have to attend sensitivity training. Michigan people are such troublemakers. :P

House subcommittee. The Senate is far to busy talking to itself.

I think it has to do with the fact that most pen dealers and collectors in the USA tend to ignore Japanese pens.

At the Baltimore Pen Show and the DC Pen Supershow, I'm always surprised to see how few people are selling new and/or vintage pens from Japan.

Honestly, it was a breath of fresh air to see Bungbox at the DC show this year.

I think it may also be partly because this subsection is not very active, and splitting it would reduce activity even further.

If one looks at the numbers, this is the most active regional sub-forum, and certainly if you split it into a Platinum, Pilot and Sailor forums, they'd probably produce numbers equal to some of the brands that currently have their own forums. But I don't have a problem with it being organized this way - there's a fair amount of comparing of the brands and cross-interest.

I have been lurking long time and I registered recently, so my opinion could be less valid than older members. But to me is a good thing as I am more keen (keener) of Japanese brands and I like having all of them in one place.

plus in connection with people tend to ignore Japanese pens, JP pens tend to have the language gap that people ever so complain hence having a more hard time for people to talk about the brands they would more or less like to own... but again I'm never a certified JLPT examinee but I try my best to dig a lot of info but could never translate, I would actually one day like to dig up and translate the shuumi bungu no hako articles on FP masters I have personally seen the more recent articles and most of them are like ages 60-70s
