I am rather new to FPs and found this sonnet on eBay for a good price, it said 1998 model made in 2000. I expected the Cisele to be deeper and more pronounced, but being an older model maybe not... Any held is greatly appreciated.

The P over W hallmark doesn't look to be right. The arrow head is almost non - existent .The cap should be hallmarked as 925 though it may may not be clearly readable .

100% genuine, the hallmarks on the cap and nib are stamped by the French Assay office and these confirm the body is Sterling Silver - there's both the head of Minerva and a .925 mark on the cap and the hallmark at the base of the nib is the Eagle's head to confirm that it's 18k or .750 solid gold. Beautiful pen in nice condition - congrats!

Looks exactly like mine except mine does not have the nib size inside of a circle. If it is a fake, it's a dang good one. I'd have to agree that it is the real McCoy.

I have seen many excellent Chinese clones. The iridium on the nib does not look right for a genuine Parker.

I have never ever seen the iridium on the tips gold plated on gold nibs.

If anything, the nib looks almost too good. I have two gold nibbed Sonnets, and on both the transition between the gold and the iridium looks sloppier. On my F nib, the slit is not even perfectly centered. However, it writes like a dream.

It's all in the lighting. If I look at mine (which I bought in a B&M some years back) it might look gold plated, too. But look at it in another light, and it is not. To me, the nib looks exactly as it should.

I agree that the pen looks genuine and the iridium does not look plated (to me at least).

The date code on the cap of Q.II would be 2nd quarter of 2000, which would correspond to what the seller stated.

  • 5 years later...

Five years on from the original post by Nate303, I wanted to thank them and all the other contributors here.  Having been looking for a Sonnet Cisele FP for a while, I found this bumper crop of 23 pens (mainly Parkers) for sale locally for $140.  The seller told me (after I handed over my money, lol) that the Sonnets were 'not silver', but I decided to take a chance anyway.  While the forum was down recently, I was patiently waiting for a chance to prove or disprove my theory.  This post rather suggests I got a good deal  ;-)  The fountain pen is identical to the one posted here, right down to the date code.
