Sheaffer Imperial Stripped Screw At Blind Cap

I am relatively new to sheaffers and pen restoration in general. I have restored my friend's Sheaffer Imperial, but somehow when I got one for myself, the screw was either sealed in and rusted or just rusted in, but i could not even get a grip on it with a screwdriver as the screw had corroded and was stripped. I have limited tools and I don't plan on buying any online. I have also searched online but the suggestions require tools I don't posses or are too risky and I don't want to try. Any suggestions? Sorry I could not get a clear photo of the screw.

It is not unusual to find a rusted blind cap screw in the Sheaffer pneumatic fillers like this. The screw rusts, often enough that the slit disappears completely or is so shallow that the blade of the screw driver can't get a bite. Even with the appropriate tools and a few tricks, it isn't always possible to get them out intact. In an extreme case you end up cutting the touchdown tube to gain access to the screw to cut a slit in it. On occasion you have to replace both TD tube and blind cap.

 

This is one of the reasons why nearly 3 years ago I started putting PVC ("silicone") sacs from Woodbin in all snorkel, TD and PFM pens. The inevitable failure of a latex sac often leads to corroded and/or rusted parts inside, parts which are diminishing in supply.

 

If your pen is black, parts are available to repair it, though you are likely to have to send it in for repair.

Im facing the same problem. Is there no trick or tip to help get the screw out. Ive tried heating the tube, putting a dollop of hot glue on the screw driver for grip, soaking in WD 40.
