Diamine Shimmering Set (Half Of The Line) Overview

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I've got a chance to review some of Diamine's new Shimmering inks line!
Huge thanks to Bureau Direct and Diamine!
http://www.cultpens.com/files/cp/imagelibrary/brands/product/diamine.jpg1b4a240.png
I could choose what I wanted to try, so I chose what interested me the most. 5 out of 10.
Hopefully there will be separate reviews by me too! :P

The pen I used is a Cerruti 1881 Zoom, with a really wet stub nib.
If the photos wouldn't show up, take a try here.
Prepare for the photo-flood!

First of all, here is a scan:
Tomoe River

Thank you so much!

I got these today and I just had to do an overview right on. So basically about 2 hours after getting them in my hand, all this was on paper, done with one pen! I'm crazy...

Photos took a little longer though. Haha

As I thought; a wide, wet nib brings out the best in these inks. Great review.

Thanks for the preview Attila. I like the look of all of these, but it seems the shimmer really drops off after the first couple of lines. Any idea why that is?

I'd say it has a lot to do with my filling method. As these arrived in sample vials, I had to use a syringe to fill the converter of the pen. Then of course pushed the ink with the piston to flood the feed. I only used just enough ink to flood the feed, so I didn't have to waste too much with cleaning.

I think with a regular fill, the shimmer will be a bit more consistent. Of course there will be more just after filling and after the pen rested a little.

But of course, mostly the same things are true for getting the shimmer as for getting the most sheen and/or shading. Going slower, more stops in your writing (printing especially), good paper and a pen with good wetness.

Hey Attila! These inks are totally gorgeous! Where were you able to buy them?

Hi there!

I got the samples from Bureau Direct (UK) to do this review. These inks are only coming out in early October.

Btw, I'll post a similar thread about the other 5 inks of the line soon.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
