Nagasawa Kobe #23 Nagata Blue

This is my first ever ink review, so there might be a bit more to wish for. Especially my handwriting....

The paper I have used is a copy paper, but not the cheapest. Actually it's quite nice to write on.

Water resistance test. Held under running water for about 7-8 seconds. Quite good result, imho.

By accident I spilled som tea on a note I hade written. So, one extra resistance test.

I hope you found the review interesting and helpful.

Feedback is welcome.

Thank you.

Beautiful, beautiful shading. Reminds me of Caran d' Ache Magnetic blue but with a much better water resistance and no hint of pink when washed away.

I'll pencil this on my wish list and keep an eye out for it.

Thanks! I also like the shading.

Atsu (cool-japan) has it for sale on eBay.

Thanks for the review! I'm just starting to explore the world of Japanese ink, and every review is very helpful.

Also, I love that you put lines through your "q's"-- I do that, too, and it's not something I've seen others do much. Handwriting excitement! :D

Japanese inks, especially Sailor's, are great!

That's how we are thought to write q's in Sweden. So that they're not confused with g's.

A picture I shot it in the light from my window, but it is a bit blue and have gotten some strange lines across it. But maybe they can be to some use....

Hi Andy, thank you for a fab review. I love the shading of this very sturdy blue, it feels like a very mature and reserved ink, very 'grown up'. I look forward to more of your reviews!.

It's a lovely blue jeans color. Great review--keep it comin'!

Thanks!

As soon as I get a new, bit unusual ink, I will write a new review. Probably in my new Oxford notebook :)

Thanks for the review. This ink is right up my alley and the water resistance is really impressive. It reminds me a bit of the Montblanc Midnight Blue. Thanks for turning me on to an ink I would have never even considered.

Any chance you could take a shot of this ink on the oxford paper. Perhaps we would see even more shading and a touch of sheen on the nicer paper.

I think its fairly close to the old IG MB Midnight Blue, but has more shading.

I have my Oxford notebook at work and I will be on a business trip in the beginning of next week, but if you have some patient I will try to post a writing sample by the end of next week. I will look for the sheen.

Now I've done a writing sample in my Oxford My Colors Notebook with Optic paper.

Not very big difference from the copy paper in my orignal review, but it shades slightly more and you can force it to sheen a little when it's very wet. I only managed to get sheen when I dropped the ink onto the paper. The text also become a bit lighter on the Optic paper, if it's good or bad is up to the beholder.

I apologize for the quality of the images. I had mixed lighting in my office and couldn't really sort it out with the camera in my phone.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
