I am a naughty boy. I just bought 2 vintage fixer-uppers. One of them is a Wearever and one of them an Arnold (both unknown models). Both of them in need of new sacs but they are vintage 14kt. I'm very glad I got them for the price I did ($15 for both)

Never mind both of them were gold plated nib, dang, oh well I'm still getting them because why not, they were cheap

Kind of impulsive. I bought it because it was on sale. I originally bought the red a few years ago at full price of around 225. I could've gotten the blue horsepower but at the last minute I decided on black

This is what it looks like in red. This pic shows off the carbon fiber better

Parker 45 FP/MP set in green.

It was so nice that I couldn't let go of it...and FarmBoy knew that.

Graf von Faber-Castell Guilloche black, F nib and Stone Grey ink as a bonus ... nice bonus I must say.

... and thinking about Pelikan M400 white tortoise in F, would be my fourth of a kind (first in F)

As I said in my last post, I almost never buy impulsively. But very recently, my wife walked into Origami Ink and walked out with a bunch of stuff, including a blue-and-demonstrator Stipula Splash (piston fill, flex-ish nib that I've yet to try out) that she bought for me. (She kept the grey/demo one for herself.)

I also pulled the trigger on a new onyx demo Nemosine Singularity with a 0.6mm stub, and a Bulow 750 (by Jinhao) to hold my 0.8mm #6 Nemosine stub (which I haven't actually installed yet). And I bumped my mouse and hit the "complete" button while my cart still had the coral Singularity in it. A quick email to xfountainpens got that changed, whew.

I still haven't gotten a full ebonite BHR pen or a button filler yet. I may decide I don't really care about the button filler. If by next year none of the reviews of ebonite Konrads less than a year old complain of the sort of nib drying issues I have in my Pequod's Smoke demo (it has to be nib-dipped in water to write after spending three hours capped) then I'll start looking at maybe getting one of those, or an ASA Daily 3-in-1.

Thumbs up for Nemosine pens. I have one that writes so well!

My last "impulsive" buy was a M800. I mean, I saved for months to buy it. As soon as I had the money for it I pushed the button. But I should've saved more because there is 60% tax on it :bunny01: . Now I'm doing the calculations of how much time with no pen related purchases until I can allow myself to buy again. :P

I just impulse bought a TWISBI Eco this morning. Goulet had a Al-Star/Filo notebook set on clearance and the Eco has been on my wish list. I got the notebook set for my daughter for Christmas and the Eco for me. :D

I have been having an extended senior moment. Just received a Mabie Todd Swan SF230 and a Mabie Todd Swan 0160.

Have a Mabie Todd Swan 3260, a Mabie Todd Swan eyedropper of unknown number and with an over and under feed (my first), and a John Holland ringtop heading my way!

Madness

Funny that this topic was resurrected just now. I was planning on putting trim around the doors in my house. I bought the trim, but had to wait until the person loaning me an air-nailer got it to me. So, I spent some time online and saw a Platinum 3776 in the Kingyo celluloid finish. It's a gorgeous pen and well out of my range. But, that day on Amazon, it was for sale for about $20 more than the regular 3776. So I bought it.

Fast forward a few days. I finally got the air-nailer, started nailing and was amazed how the living room was transformed by just doing trim around the doors. I thought I should add baseboard. But, I hadn't budgeted for baseboard. No problem, I thought, except for that pen. I would have raided my "fun" budget. But, the pen was already fun. So, I have to go back to the original plan of doing baseboard in October.

Happily, the pen arrived the day I started kicking myself. It turns out it's an awesome, gorgeous pen and a really amazing writer. And, you know what, I can wait until October: the doors are more noticeable than trim, and the living room really does feel good since the first time I bought the house.

I started here.

I just snapped this as I typed the post. (Sorry about the quality: I need more light for the iPad camera.) By the way, the church photo is hanging in the middle of what was the second doorway.

So, I gave up baseboard for this beauty.

I got a broad nib.

And here it is with the rest of the family. To think that once I hated this model.

Pelikan M800 Burnt Orange with a fine nib. Lovely pen but unfortunately too big for me.

Five New Conway Steward Dandy pens, with no trim rings or nib in place. I shall attempt to fit Bock #5 nibs in each, and make trim rings out of brass :)

Hard to say. I'm not really sure how long it takes to cross the threshold from impulse buy to reasonably well considered decision.

For me, it's the difference between decision made in five hours versus after 30 hours including a good night sleep.

I have a long conference coming up this weekend and figured I needed a pen better suited for the occasion. I bought a Pilot vanishing point on amazon this morning. Few things in life are better than Prime shipping.

Impulsive? Is there any other kind? I don't need any other pens, but that doesn't stop me from buying them.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
