I had a similar experience with my first Lamy 2k, an OM. Fortunately, the nibs are fairly easy to swap, and I have had very good luck with Lamy's EF nibs.

Big smile, I'll never use my ink that way.

I feel the same way about mine with a B nib. I’m not trying to start an argument, but other than its looks, I’m surprised the Lamy 2000 gets such love.

Me t with a person I had encountered at a flea market recently. he mentioned that he had some pens that he had accumulated over some years of going to estate sales. He really had no interest in using them and had put them away until I asked if he was interested in showing (and perhaps selling) them to me. After a bit of a delay (three weeks) he finally said yes.

We met today and I ended up buying the whole lot!

Among other things the lot included:

 1 Montblanc 149 FP

2 Montblanc 146 FP

2 Montblanc  (slender) Rollerballs - one a Doue

1 Montblanc Ballpoint (163?)

1 Montblanc (it looks like a 121 but with 14k nib and no markings on the cap

(It looks like the above need to be cleaned and polished - will know more specifics when that is done)

and a bunch of other pens in need of various repairs and restoration.

There are even several dip pens, one of which seems to be made of tiny vertebrae stacked on top of each other to create the elongated stalk.

I think this is what it means to feel "spent". 😀

Were you able to acquire everything? This is so exciting.

Hello friends,

It's been a while, still busy with my project but wanna share this beauty.

the base pen is Pilot Custom Urushi Fountain Pen - Vermillion (M)

I have been eyeing this artist's work and finally this one catches my eyes.

Debated for a bit but used my still 3 months away big birthday as my excuse!

It is my first modern oversize pen.

Will update when I receive it.  : )))

Further inspection also yields a

Parker 75 set - FP & BP Sterling and a

Wahl Eversharp 5th Avenue with a solid 14k gold cap. It's a lever fill with a fully pliable sac, and very good J-bar. What it needs is to have the nib adjusted which is difficult for me because it's a hooded nib. This will be outsourced to someone with more skill and experience.

I am giving serious consideration to keeping the "149" for myself and selling the rest at the Commonwealth (Boston) Pen Show in September.*

* Note: I understand the circumstances so my comment is NOT a criticism, If we still had the classifieds here I would prefer to sell the pens here.

I went for a Montblanc from Japan, un-identified by the seller but it looks like a 320 or similar slender piston-filler with an ink window, in burgundy. Nothing special except that it has the longest, skinniest tines I've ever seen on a nib of that style; also the price was quite reasonable even though the pen appears to be user-grade, and free shipping, so I had to try it.

After the last two, a Waterman Lady Patricia set and a vintage Onoto, I swore there would be no more until the local pen show in September. But then....

I stumbled over a Waterman 12, BCHR, eyedropper, flex nib. Oh, dear...

A modern Tibaldi Modello 60, which thankfully is a cartridge/converter-filled model.

I passed on the opportunity to get a new (gold-trimmed) Platinum #3776 Century with EF nib at a reasonably good price, though, because I bought one (in a different colour) more than six months ago, and still haven't inked it up yet!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

Sailor KOP.  Would have preferred a ProGear KOP, but the price was irresistible.

Add lightness and simplicate.

Do nibs count? I just received a three pack of Jinhao EF nibs from China that arrived two weeks after I ordered them!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
