I just gave in and bid for (and won) a trio of Waterman 92, 94, and matching pencil, in marbled gray with red specks. Silver Pearl, I believe they called this material. 1930s.

Now I need to figure out why... As in, find a good use for them. What to draw, what to draw? 😄

When in doubt - go meta - draw the pens and pencils themselves.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Then go meta-meta and draw the boxes they came in, etc. etc.

That's about the limit of my artistic ability.

I mentioned an impulsive purchase in another thread, although it'll be 2-3 weeks before I see the result of my impulsivity.

Appelboom sent an email during the weekend to say they are now selling Yard O Led pens.  I've wanted one for a long time but can't help smiling at the idea that a resident in England, wishing to buy a fountain pen made in England, has to order said pen from the Netherlands to get the best price!

Your price will exclude VAT which is why it looks cheaper.

By the time the UK post office and UK customs have added import and service charges, it will not be so cheap.

I "accidently" hit bid now and won.  Can't wait to see for it to get here!

Yes, I know about the price "looking" cheaper.

I'm a fairly frequent shopper at Appelboom and usually get 15% discount, added to which their VAT-inclusive price for the pen I ordered is a bit less than the full RRP charged by most retailers.  When an item arrives in the UK, VAT is added to the price actually paid.  Even with the other additions the total saving to me will still be very close to 20%.

Today I got a Platinum 3776 Century in Jade that I impulsively bought last week. I was looking for a nice looking green pen and, when I saw it, knew that was the one.

That's a very nice pen and a very nice motivation. congratulations!

Well, my jury duty was rescheduled, and it turns out that Muji is on the walk to Kinokuniya (didn’t make it that far today), so I ended up with that aluminum fp I have heard so much about and some premium lay flat and spiral notebooks. There’s an amazing amount of stationery in that store.

A Titanium Retro 51 (Jumbo, I think) that I just bought at our local second hand shop for #3.00.

All it needed was a refill which I already had.

Picked this up for a fiver

large.montegrappa-extra.jpg.5019773b9a784ac24f5bf0a9b6832b05.jpg

It now has a nib.

I've fixed the totally seized piston.

Needs a new cork, so that's next and than a polish and I think it might turn out to be rather nice - 1940s celluloid I think.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
