Last night hit the "buy" button on a NOS Sheaffer Star Wars Pop "BB-8" pen on eBay; then had to order a converter for it.

Congratulations 👏

But this is how I usually end up 'having to' also buy a new 300 or a couple of pre-owned Targas or... How do you stop? 😄

TWSBI Go in Clear, F nib.  It reminds me of Lock 'n' Lock food storage containers.  This thing is a firehose with Monteverde Malibu Blue.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

The Black Friday sale on AliExpress got me and I bought a blue Pilot Pluminix with a broad italic nib and the Asvine blue and gold skeleton for less than the regular price of the Asvine. I am contemplating a Hero 100 or 120.

Stop?  What is this "stop" of which you speak?

Seriously, though, I did need to get a converter for the pen, since I don't really like using cartridges (and refilling empty ones is a PITA...).

Just got the tracking email from the USPS -- the pen has made it to the Pgh distribution center as of a little under an hour ago (impressive given that today is a holiday).  So I should be getting it by Saturday at the latest, and possibly tomorrow.  The converter for it is also now in the Pgh area, according to the tracking for it, with the ETA being Saturday as well.

I impulsively bought an Esterbrook desk set. A thread here made me look. I didn’t see any I desired on eBay. I checked Etsy, and well, bought.

This morning I hit a local estate sale company's "1/2 off almost everything" warehouse sale, and lucked into not one but TWO Sheaffer Snokels (both in boxes).  One is I think a Clipper (white dot model, metal cap with gold trim over a black barrel; nib looks F-ish); the other appears to be a Burgundy Admiral, with what looks like it might be an EF nib.  The Clipper was in a nice hard-side "clamshell" case, with a second loop for what I presume would have been a matching pencil and what looks to be the fill instructions included (the Admiral was in a cardboard box.  Total was $40 for the two PLUS a "still in the box" old style glass thermometer with a case with a clip on it.  So, a good morning.

Of course I don't know yet whether the pens are in working condition -- I'll have to get them looked over by a pro at some point.

And the Sheaffer Star Wars Pop "BB-8" pen is supposedly out for delivery -- along with (coming separately) a converter for it.

I didn't even know there were so many alternatives. My better half's into cats, so I'm getting worried 😉

So, a good morning

Wonderful. Also inspiring. I don't know where I could find an estate sale in the Netherlands, let alone one that sells pens, but someday I'll find out. Thanks for sharing 😃

My last impulsive purchase was definitely at the New York Metropolitan Pen Show. ....

That was years ago, right?

I didn't miss notice of a 2022, pen show, did I?

Unfortunately it was not too long ago.  I hate to say it, but you did miss the show. It took place this past October 14-16. I was only able to attend on the 16th myself.  Do you know if there are any more shows coming to our area? I liked the one I was just at and would love to attend more, but i do not have the time nor the funds to travel the country to do such.

I wasn't able to get to the NY show (and it wasn't very well advertised outside of the greater NYC area, apparently).  Is that different from the Long Island Pen Show?  The only way I even knew about it is that I've got a bottle of Robert Oster New York Pen Show 2022 ink coming in the mail from Vanness (it and the rest of my order are apparently out for delivery today! ).

Oh, wow. Well, thanks for telling me. I guess I've been missing things for a while. A lot of my connections have fallen apart over the past 2½ years ☹️.

It's the same as the Long Island Pen Show (they're rebranding I think). I only found out about it looking around online, not by notification. "Out for delivery" is my favorite message (I may have a shopping problem)!

Not a problem! If you know about anything in our area let me know! I only found out about it by looking up pen shows on google.

I miss the good old days of the LIPS.

It’s still the same show (as far as I’m aware), but they’re just changing the name. It’s still at Hofstra in what I think is in the same spot

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
