This is the closest I have come to in finding a replacement for Sheaffer's King's Gold, with clout!

There are a couple I would love to be renamed. The sheen/ shimmer is incredibly appealing and satisfying if one can use that term!

Oh man, these look much nicer in your photos! How does the Golden Sands seem in person as a poor man's gold leaf substitute?

Ooh -- makes me think of Apache Sunset, but shot through with real gold. Okay, getting a bottle of this one, too.

Thank you! Ok, I LOVE gold (in a very unhealthy way) - and this as I have said is very close to Sheaffer's King's Gold which I was crazy about. The ink goes down very light and darkens to different shades of 'gold' - it is incredible to watch. As for the Gold leaf substitute, yes it is there - but do use a wet writer that lays down some ink and then you will see the magic. I was delighted to have captured the gold dancing in the bottle.

I have both, and this doesn't have the 'red' shading the Apache does, BUT I found a similar shading quality that is absolutely lovely! I am excited for you, please DO come back and share your thoughts once you get yours!.

Thanks for the review.

Interesting, but I think I may pass on this one. I didn't really like Apache Sunset (not really an "orange" person) and "Apache Sunset with gold dust" isn't enough to sway me.

Cyber6 and Ruth, I have posted a comparison above to show you King's Gold with both Apache and Golden Sands. Hope it shows the distinction. Cyber6, I would love you see your formulation with your lustre dust! Please share a picture as and when!

Ah, much less orange than I initially thought. Still quite nice, though now solidly behind Brandy Dazzle in my "need-to-get" list.

Agree, Golden Sands had incredible shading that is not orange. Glad you like Brandy Dazzle, I have posted some more pictures on that review to show some browns for comparison.

That is exciting news! And your new comparison pic is very helpful to get a better understanding of where it is in the spectrum of yellows. Can't wait until this gets released. I will use it in the juiciest fattest of nibs and make some pseudo-illuminated manuscripts.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
