Nice sleeves! Where can I buy them (I'm hoping it wouldn't involve having to travel to China)?

No you don't had to travel to China, but you had to goto Taobao and order through their shops ( there are several that I buy from ) they are small craft shops that usually had some set models and some set stock on ready made ones and accept order for these in non ready made textile choice they had on hand ( search using this string " 布藝+鋼筆筆袋 " ). From pretty economical priced to extremely expensive ones too. If you need the detail, message me private

Ah, I thought it was a specific shop that sold them. I'm a tad out of money right now (very low income combined with five young relatives who expected christmas presents) but I'll look for them when I can afford them. Hopefully some can be found on Taobao's sister website Aliexpress which is more laowai friendly. Otherwise I'll take up your kind offer of assistance :-)

I am actually learning Chinese (mandarin/simplified) but while I knew it was difficult I underestimated how difficult. It REALLY doesn't help that I have health issues that among other things prevents me from sleeping properly.

Edit: corrected the tense in the last sentence.

I am indeed Swedish. I'll let you know when I'm planning to order if I can't find it on Aliexpress (probably next year - I have debts and there are also more time sensitive purchases ahead).

Oh, and as for hoping I wouldn't have to go to China, I figure I should clarify that. I do want to visit both China and Hong Kong but my current health makes travelling to one of the neighbouring towns problematic.

Couple more Wing Sung 3013s turned up in the mail on Saturday. Man, that's a solid pen.

Glad to see the Penbbs 491 Glass! I have a Vermouth model on the way that should arrive tomorrow. They do look like ideal eyedropper pens.

Cherry trees are blooming. I've been writing with a PenBBS 491. Makes for a great eyedropper.

Compares nicely to the Moonman C1. More show and tell here.

Have a feeling that the 491 will be an underrated pen in the PenBBS lineup.

Really nice to hold and nice grip section. I am really enjoying mine.

Same here. I just inked mine up for the first time yesterday and the grip, balance, and overall feel is just perfect. Really a joy to write with!

Fuliwan 2062 pocket pen did come in a more common metal ( brass lacquered ) with clip , but here's my less common acrylic clipless version, it come equipped with Fuliwan's own EF, F, or M nib , with screw to cap and screw to post , a straight slim no.5 , C/C filling .. the metal version with clip had more than a dozen different finish all solid colors, and there is 4 acrylic version all clipless ( @Chrisrap52 had a video on youtube which you can check out ) ... here on these 2 I had retrofit them with vintage Hero an Golden Star nib ; I had to agree the M nib from Fuliwan very pleasant to use

When Moonman come out with the M600 and now the M800 there is somewhat heated discussion about the ethics of the copycat approach .. well .. my take had always been somewhat neutral but I had to question when we the consumer keep buying the well so call knock off , then we are just telling the Mfr what ... and the flip side is ... if they do come up with original design .. we seldom give them good business even if the pen is actually just as good or even better .. now go figure

And one of Moonman's better original ; shall I say is the Moonman M5 , one of their wooden pen that actually do not use a brass section ( before they got us the M6 of course ) , its 115mm uncapped, 130mm capped, and 153mm posted & at 13mm girth with a comfortable , smooth no stepping section made of resin / acrylic and the usual Moonman screw in nib unit , the cap screw in via the thread right next to the nib and the section is left hand screwed onto the barrel , the cap and barrel is wood turned and all round profiled with a rather stylized clip

And further there is actually an OEM variant of this in the form of the Montagut Carpenter ( yes that Montagut , French members know ) now with the cap in hexagonal profile snap on instead of screw on, section now in brass lacquered screw in nominal fashion to the barrel , with a branded but the same screw in Moonman nib unit in FM . I like the M5 and the Montagut a lot , its functional, somewhat off beat esoteric stylish , and the whole no stepping section and 13mm girth made for comfortable easy grip.

Those do look very comfortable to hold! Is the wood light so that the pen is front heavy, even when posted?

Well the M5 weights in at 24.3g or 11.7 g without the cap without ink , it is very comfortable to hold but it will be top heavy when posted , the Montagut weights in at 31.2g, & 21.1g without the cap, its by nature front heavy due to the whole brass lacquered section and by the same reason it feel kind of ... weird .. shall I say when posted cause now its having weight at both end ( the cap & the section ) instead of distributed , one can feel it when writing. It does not hinder the writing it just feel different. Sadly Moonman made only a couple batch of M5 and that's it .. its no longer currently cataloged , an interesting pen it is , the left hand screw resin section made for some fun, the no stepping section / barrel coupled with a 13mm girth and a slight bell waist on the section ( and a fairly pronounced one on the Montagut ) made for some very free form and ergonomic posture.

Hero 286 circa early / mid 1990's

actually I am not sure when this particular 286 model come to be , but Hero got another ( totally different and unrelated ) model 286 before that and another two after that , AFAIK, this particular model was early or mid 1990's and very few produced in limited numbers in small batches, it's of metal ( aluminum I think but I am not sure , might be thin drawn steel ) lacquered and pattern gold trim on all side of the rounded square cross sectioned barrel and cap which itself is snap on and snap to post , C/C filling , with a Vector style nib ( steel and M ) , clip had some cue taken from contemporary Waterman it seems , and section is metal and sandblasted satin finish, write surprisingly wet and smooth with almost no feedback

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
