Rohrer And Klingner: Scabiosa + Alt Bordeux + Solfernino + Magenta

Luma

Recommended Posts

I've been digging through the 'Ink Review' threads and forums and I have not been able to find a comparison of the Rohrer and Klingner purples. Would preferrably like to see the difference between Scabiosa and Alt-Bordeux but figured it wouldn't hurt to include the Solferino and Magenta. If anyone has writing or swab samples for these inks, would you mind posting a photo? Thanks.

I recently tried R&K magenta. IT WAS BORING BORING BORING. I was looking for a written sample on the page, but can't find one. Did I mention it was boring? Especially if you were expecting a beauty like Solforino.

As for Alt-B, I've never tried it, so I can't give you any feedback.

It's not for me. I like vibrant inks that write wet. Scabiosa is dry and though it is pretty, if I'm using an IG, then I'm buying one from Konrad.

The only one I have a sample of is Alt-Bordeaux, but here are three others to help put it in perspective (sorry for the chicken scratch handwriting---didn't think about anyone else seeing my swatch cards at the time).

Overall, it's pretty flat and dull. :::meh:::

Why are there fourteen samples of dark plum ink on my desk? Because I still haven't found the right shade.

Is that a problem...??? : : : sigh : : :

Update: Great. Finally found one I love (Lamy Dark Lilac) but I can't get more. Ah, life in my inky world....

Thank you, I try and change them every other day or so, and repeat some of my favorites. That one is from Napalm.

Thanks PaperQueen.

Happy to help. :)

BTW, LuMA, your library of ghostly avatars have been a-ma-zing to peruse in the "ever-changing avatar" thread. Talk about talent...wow!

I love Scabiosa and use it every day. It shades wonderfully and looks so different on different papers that one might as well be using several different inks.

I haven't yet tried Alt Bordeaux but am tempted, given the samples I've seen. Does it shade?

Thanks for the comparison! I have a sample of Alt-Bordeaux, and I love it particularly in my stub nibs. It shades very nicely ranging from a deep burgundy to a pale wine. I also like the way the ink flows. It is a very well behaved ink. I actually just purchased a bottle of it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
