This is the 1000000th type M48 fuze produced by W A Sheaffer Pen Co War division July 9 1943

It seems they send a pen with each bomb, so they don't have problems signing the death certificate.

The pen doesn't meet WWII military uniform regulations. Based on the balance cap with flat body it is either a frankenpen or was made during the war.

Note to self: don't try to fix anything without the heat gun handy!

This is in the Sheaffer Pen Museum, you should come look at it!

 

So they made demonstrator fuses too. :)

 

What's the story on the pen? It looks like it's seen some battles too.

I believe the pen was one that was recovered from a ship in Pearl Harbor. The Sheaffer Museum has two, one from the USS Arizona, and one from USS Ohio or Oklahoma (I can't remember)
