Posting examples of my handwriting in this thread always demonstrates to me how much work I need to do in order to get it up to a half-way-respectable standard 😔

Foul in clear conditions, but handsome in the fog.

I'm not enthused with how this doodle turned out (especially the composition), and it's not exactly the deepest quote in history, but it is somewhat appropriate to the time of year.severed.thumb.jpg.68e2f10764b2a790d664a816ab83d777.jpg

So this is not actually handwriting practice, I just like to scribble nice quotes down when I hear or see them, and a friend reminded me that I'd written this one down a year or two ago and I happened to scan it in for him.  ... I actually think my handwriting has gotten worse since this quote, hah!

I endeavour to be frank and truthful in what I write, show or otherwise present, when I relate my first-hand experiences that are not independently verifiable; and link to third-party content where I can, when I make a claim or refute a statement of fact in a thread. If there is something you can verify for yourself, I entreat you to do so, and judge for yourself what is right, correct, and valid. I may be wrong, and my position or say-so is no more authoritative and carries no more weight than anyone else's here.

This is a lovely handwriting, and I agree with this perspective.

Below is my current cursive, and below that is an example of my still very early and amateurish attempts at calligraphy.

My biggest problem is obviously inconsistency. I need to keep working on it, and avoid being inconsistent with my training too.

Best stand alone (ie not part of a franchise) movie ever.

i have a tattoo of a snowflake that says “you are not a beautiful and unique snowflake” the next line in the soundtrack song being “you are the same decaying organic matter…”

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
