Noodler's Inkmyn Sapphire - Better Than Parker Penman Sapphire

Well, I was planning on sending you some inks in the mail.

PS

As to the kitty comments, I aver nothing.

Isn't the reply "I neither confirm nor deny "?

And your avatar is winking at me again

If that previous response is not up to my usual standard, it is because I have found out that it is difficult to reply to the FPN via iPHone when on a bus that is being driven too fast over too many bumps (one or two of which may have been pedestrians).

No sheen. Doesn't feather or bleed on cheap paper with a wet pen, but give me time.

Sheen schmeen....great mix Amberlea. You are quite an alchemist.

Spent the whole afternoon at the show, but I didn't recognize anybody but Richard Binder, because of his hat.

They are using these stupid lanyard name tags that turn the printed side toward the wearer 95% of the time. Might as well have saved the money. With the few you can see, the names are printed so small that you have to lean in to read them. Make yourselves known, folks!

I've seen some really nice pens today, including a beautiful vintage Pelikan and the Namiki Emperor Goldfish, which is so much more beautiful than its photographs.

I'm here--also got some nice things (although less expensive than yours. We'll see what extravagances today has in store for me.)

My name tag says "Ron" Imaginative, huh?

Woo hoo! Picked up some Navajo Turquoise at the DC show yesterday - at a discount no less! Couldn't find any La Colour Royale at the show but a few quick key strokes on my computer this morning and it will be at my house in a couple of days.

To the lab, Batman!

My LCR should arrive today. Already had Navajo Turq (one of my faves for its amazing shading and color). Tonight I shall mix this amazing potion and put it in a wet TWSBI. THANK YOU AMBER!!!

BTW, that avatar of yours is my favorite to date. The Birth of Venus no less.

I mixed my first batch last night and tried it on several papers. The color looks good but I'm getting just a hint of shading. I tried a 1.1 stub and my M1000 with a broad nib. (addition: just tried it on a Black n' Red notebook. Some shading on that paper with the broad nib)

amberleadavis-- I wonder what pen and paper combination you used?

Anyone else want to share their experiences with this mix?

Thanks,

Dave

Just a quick note. I tried my first batch this afternoon and got low to no shading and a bit duller color than PPS. I am looking at different papers and how they will react. More later. Used a TWSBI Eco stub and HP 32 lb then Franklin Planner paper (which usually shades well). Little to no luck. Oh well, more later.

My mix was really not sophisticated. I took the nib off my M200 italic. It was already using Nav Turquoise for the last month. I added what looked to be an equal amount of LCR and I shook it. Then I wrote with it until it just mixed. I think if you add a dash of water, you'll get more shading without a loss of color. Also, I think less LCR is probably the correct starting point. The paper was the same for all it is Miquel Ruis notebook paper. I will try it the pen on more papers this week.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I just tried 3 parts of Navajo Turquoise to 2 parts of LCR. Starting to get a little shading on HP 32b lazerjet paper. Clairefontaine Triomphe had a little more shading. My next mix will be 4:1

----------- edited to update results-------------

Just tried 4 parts of Navajo Turquoise to 1 part of LCR. Slightly better shading on Clairefontaine Triomphe, about the same on HP laserjet 32lbs. No difference in shading in any of the mixes on copy paper. At 4:1 the color definitely changes.

I await other people's tests.

Here you go

It's subtle. But you can see a slight color change between the two. The bottom one is more blue as you'd expect from more turquoise ink.

Hmm.... I wonder if that's closer to the real PPS. We will have to try it again.

amberleadavis-- I opened your sample on the first page of this thread and my sample on adjacent browser windows. Doing that it does look like the bluer one (1:4) looks more like PPS.

{Oh it's so hard to tell on monitors; difficult enough on paper!}

I will try and ink up the the original PPS this week and see if I can do some comparison. I think the crazy mixing was my problem.

Amber, I have my Navajo Turquoise and am awaiting arrival of LCR. Thus, I can't play until it gets here! :-(

Any chance you can show some samples mixed at varying ratios 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 ?

I only did the one crazy mix, OCArt did the mixes, let's ask him. :)

If not, I can try to do some mixing.

Wow, this is getting very interesting. For this test I used a Lamy 1.5 nib in an Al-Star. This nib is dryer than my Pelikan M1000. (My thinking was that it would be more representative.) As you can see VERY different results. Now shading even with the 1:1 mixture. Hmmm....

Here's a direct comparison between two of the samples written on adjacent lines. (Sorry, I didn't think about it when I had the 1:4 loaded.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
