Darn it Syd. I swore to my wife that I wouldn't be buying any more expensive pens. I'll end up buying this for certain though -- it's too well done. When can I order?

The new pens look fabulous, Syd!

And definitely oversize!

Love the red feed too.... :)

I saw the pen at the DC show. The vendor was not there until sat & sun. By that time I had already been at the show for 2 days and spent way more than I was planning. Oh well.

It was a beautiful pen and based on a nib-on-fingernail test, it seemed pretty springy. I probably should have bought one.

I went to see the pen, but my expectations were not too high. I own one of the vintage blue Decobands. I was pleasantly surprised to see that this new pen is a quality piece of work--there is nothing cheap looking about it. The nib is quite flexible, but not flimsy at all, and the bright red feed is a nice touch. I went ahead and put a deposit down on one. If I remember correctly, Syd told me they were going to do an initial run of 75 in each of the three colors, black, rosewood, and blue marble. I suspect they will sell out of them without too much trouble.

I spent a ton of time talking to Syd and looking at the pen at the show, as well as writing with the demo unit. Yes, I put down my deposit for an expected September delivery.

I am not much of a fan of "hommage" pieces in which someone buys the rights to an old brand name and creates pens that are poorly made and have nothing in common with the originals. It has happened in watches, too. But Syd is writing a different story with his Wahl Eversharps.

In addition to Syd being a heck of a nice guy, the new Deco Bands are fantastic! Workmanship is excellent and I was really impressed with the engineering. Despite this being a large and heavy pen (due to the metal used in the pneumatic filling system), it is so well balanced when used unposted that it actually feels light in the hand and one can write with a very light touch.

The nib is gorgeous! Instead of mere engraving, the large #8 nib has metal milled away in the inner part of the nib surface, which is then apparently blasted to provide a frosty finish. I notice Syd didn't include a nib close-up in his photos and I hope he will add that.

The pen is not inexpensive, but it is gorgeous and there was no question in my mind I wanted one. From the looks of Syd's order pad, I wasn't alone.

I'm very excited to get to see this pen at the SF Pen Show. I'm not ready to buy a pen as expensive as this one, but my curiosity about flex nibs definitely makes me want to check it out.

Ink Sample Exchange Post

I have many unlisted but I'm trying not to spam the thread.

I also am happy to provide new vials for samples too!

Another beautiful pen, sadly priced well outside of the range of ordinary people yet again. Very disappointing from that side of things.

I'm sorry to have to let you know this, but things cost what they cost. There are many people who can't afford to buy things that I can afford, just as there are many people who can afford to buy things that I can't afford. You may consider this unfair, but the price of an item is determined by what someone is willing to pay for it. If there is something you want that you cannot afford, then it is up to you to accumulate the money for it, either by thrift or industry. What is not right is for you to expect someone to sell you something for less than what it cost him to design and make it, just so you can afford it.

Well, I didn't actually say that, but whatever.

I DID say it was a beautiful looking pen, so perhaps we should leave it at that? :)

'Ordinary' people buy BIC ballpoints! Fountain pen fans are anything but ordinary - we are eccentrics, and proud of it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
