Hello everyone!

I'm Mike. I live in Denver, Colorado! About a year and a half ago I moved back to Denver (and the U.S. for that matter) from Australia. I am an engineer and was working in the field.

Now that I have an office role I've dropped the field pencil and picked up the fountain pen...and I'm LOVING it! As engineers do, I've been researching to no end, learning as much as I can.

I'm really glad I found FPN as it has been an incredible resource (unlike many forums out there...)!

I also happen do be big into photography as a hobby!

The Visconti Michelangelo rollerball was my first nice pen and it is what got me into writing more. I then found FPN and started lusting after many fountain pens and have since picked up a Lamy 2000 and a Visconti Homo Sapiens MIDI.

Now I just need to practice my penmanship so I stop looking like I'm 4 years old.

Here are a few photos and some non-pen related of Colorado too!

Welcome Mike! I promise you are gonna like it here!!

My husband and I spend our summers (June thru Sept.) in Colorado and we love your fair state. We have a cabin in the San Juan Mountains near Ouray.

The rest of the year I spend in Texas - out of the city, away from traffic and concrete.

Thanks knitter! I think so too! I am not from here originally (from San Antonio originally), but I did go to college here (in Golden), then moved to Texas and then to Australia with work before my career brought me back and I am glad it did! Well I must say that I am very jealous of your cabin!! The scenery around Ouray is absolutely gorgeous!

Hi! Welcome to FPN. :W2FPN:
I'm really glad you've joined us.
Enjoy!
Best wishes from Japan,

Thanks Virtu! Japan is number one on my places to visit that I have yet to see! I've only flown through, but about the best Japanese I've ever had was at Narita! haha :puddle: :headsmack:

Welcome !

Many thank for sharing. The glacier-formed valleys of Colorado are just as lovely as those of the Alps. (and, I don't have to get vaccinations to visit.)

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.

Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

They are quite nice! I've spent some time in the Alps, early Alps anyway, have family in Füssen, Germany and have crossed over into the Alps a couple times. Would definitely like to explore more! Will be there again this Christmas, so we'll see!

Hello Mike,

Your pictures are sweet, and it just makes me want to pack up and do a road trip out there and do some painting! the first mountain scene looks very much like a pastel. Especially the sky.

The inks are a wonderful color.

I do have a question. On top of the cabin stove is a board leaning against the exhaust pipe, with a cut out in the center. I can't figure out what it is for. Do you know? Dan

Thanks for the comments Dane! Wait to do your road trip until the fall color changes! Some photographers like to capture the scene as true-to-life as possible and others, like myself, like to portray what I saw at the time of the capture, the vibrance, color, drama. Though I don't go this direction ALL the time!

The board is a toilet seat; usually set on a couple of logs surrounding a hole dug in the ground.

Greetings from another Coloradan! Great photos too. What are you doing to improve your handwriting? I gave up on legible years ago and decided to go for interesting. Using a fountain pen helps pull off the con : ).

Well I am forcing myself to write more often for one. About to take a lesson with Evette who teaches at ACC and see what kind of pointers she has!

Hey there MikeyinDenver! Welcome to FPN! I am a "former Coloradoan" about to become a "Coloradoan" again, although it might just be temporary. There is no place on earth like Colorado, particularly if you are a photographer. I share your love for photography and fountain pens.

What camera gear do you use? I'm a bit of a Nikon addict, and now have the 810 that I have wanted since the day it was announced. It is fantastic for landscape photography (my main thing).

Thankfully, fountain pens can be less expensive, unless you collect the really high end collector editions. I am just mostly a functional writer.

Anyway, welcome!

Not sure if this has been suggested already but would a setting for localized regions or chapters in FPN be helpful? I don't know if there is a way to find local FPN members who would be nearby. I don't know if we want to be discoverable but a setting to know how many members are in 25, 50, or a 100 miles of each other might be helpful. We can create a regions specific network like Craigslist where people could use that to connect with nearby members, conduct in person sales, arrange FPN meetups

Hi again all, I forgot to tell y'all that I made the post about Sweden ink PIF. Most have probably found it long ago, but here's a link, anyway:

I read your blog post and all the replies with much interest. I'm a FP user in Australia. Been part of this forum for years but rarely post. I did come across your ink sharing thread and considered participation. For me it's not lack of interest but lack of time to play around with FP and inks. I'd feel bad to put my hand up for the box and just have it sit until gosh knows when...   I also think that the FP community in Australia is smaller, and I wonder how many in the community are

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav

If one wanted to do this, one could just use the "About Me" field which appears to be unlimited in size.  And if a bunch of people wanted to cooperate, the Member Title field (or signature) could be used to this end - "Ink Giver" (or some such) could be used by those with inks to give...  No software edits required.
