The Travelling Arts Journal

Luma

Recommended Posts

Each year there is a Starving Arts Festival in the city I live in to promote the many forms of artistic espression. As a result, I was inspired to donate one of my journals in order to bring together individuals whom all have their own unique perspective of what art entails.

The journal to be used was made by GatzBcn (gatzbcn.etsy.com) and has 400 pages of creme-colored Tomoe River paper.

The rules are simple. You keep the journal for a few days. Express yourself in whatever form of art you choose as long as it fits but does not damage the journal. When you are ready, send it to the next individual. Once everyone has had a turn, I will upload all entries to this thread.

If you are interested in participating, post here and then send me a PM. I will post the final lineup once we get enough people.

You are correct, Empty_of_Clouds. This is a custom made journal that I had commissioned a few months ago.

That sounds very nice.

Any country restrictions? I see you are in the US, often those living in the Us and starting this kind of endeavour, restrict the participation to US individuals, only.

I think it would be a lot more interesting if it was international but that will depend on how many people sign up and where they live. I'd be willing to tweak the list so that if it is in one state/country and there is a person in the same state/country, they would follow each other sequentially.

I can probably find an old piece of clarinet music somewhere and add it to the journal. Maybe even write it out note for note perhaps? Be a great excuse to get one of these:

But then I would need these:

With my 'fude' nib I could do all the notes:

Oh boy... this may become an extensive ordeal lol

It's been awhile since I wrote any poetry. I could get interested in adding a few thoughts to this journal.

oops, sorry, the instrument in the background looked slimmer to me, which is why I said oboe... it must be time for another eye check-up B)

That stave nib's really cool. I've got a plastic stave stamp on wheels (along with a separate ink pad), but that nib's definitely a lot cooler.

If I provide the clarinet snippet, will you be interested in contributing an oboe piece?

Hi LuMA, just to clarify. When I said I am a very long way away, I was referring to New Zealand. So you may want to reconsider my involvement, although if Migo984 is still in Australia at that time we are fairly geographically close.

I would prefer to not go first. My handwriting is not good for first page material haha

The list is not finalized yet Lionheartlee but I will keep in mind your preference to not go first. Plenty of time to practice.

As for having it go to New Zealand, I will fill the spot before your turn so I can ship it myself. It won't be a problem.

I'd love to be involved - and another kiwi! I'm happy to ship it out of NZ.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
