Ranga Model 4C (Regular Ebonite & Premium Ebonite)- Group Buy

Recieved my blue ripple as well. It looks like what sansenri has posted i.e. closer to a teal. It writes extremely smooth though and is incredibly light and comfortable for it's size. Great pen really.

Since this is my first ebonite pen, any things I should look out for to help maintain the longevity of the pen?

This may not be maintenance, per se, but I would recommend heat setting it as soon as possible. Brian Goulet has a good guide here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rhfXcBoM_Q. Just be careful not touching the ebonite body to the hot water. I have only done it with my Fellowship Pillar eyedropper, and it solved its burping in a very satisfactory manner. I hope that heat setting my Model 4C will fix its ever so slight hard-starting and skipping.

EUREKA!

I actually really like that color. I just ordered my Model 3 in blue ripple, but if it ends up looking like that, I won't be disappointed.

Before heat setting be sure to find out if the feed really is ebonite, or if it is in fact a plastic Jowo screw-in nib unit. I'm pretty sure I've read here on the forum somewhere that plastic feeds should not be heat set... https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/251999-can-plastic-feeds-be-heat-set/

The only other thing I vaguely remember hearing at some point is that ebonite can crack easier than acrylic, so it pays to try to avoid dropping the pen if possible!

Yeah, sorry, I was a bit fast on the keyboard. I ordered a JoWo nib… I have to put my hopes into a thorough detergent cleaning to fix my issues.

To provide further input on pen maintenance; I think (nota bene: think) that ebonite is a bit more sensitive to UV radiation, so maybe you should be a bit more careful in exposing it to sunlight for long periods. Seems like we're are at a dearth of clear and educated answers…

Is it just wide angle distortion or is the black smaller than the ripple? Edited by Blue4130

Greetings fellow pen-people

I received a very unique package on Friday, A long rectangle box, covered with addresses, duty stickers and other tags to help it on its long journey.

To protect it on its trek from Thiruvallur India, it was wrapped in cotton cloth, sewed, the ends, sealed with wax. This little box, traveled 14.594 Km and was now, sitting on my desk. Usually when I get a package, whose content is highly anticipated, I unceremoniously ripe it open, but this box was wrapped with such care that I couldn't just......rip into it. So i carefully untied the string, and slid the contents out. A protective layer of newspaper protected the inner-box and pen within.

As I read the almost one year out of date the hindu newspaper, chennai edition, and was saddened to see that I missed seeing Amara Kaaviyam, staring the beutiful Mia George. It never made it to our local Regal.

Turning my attention back to maters at hand, I finally got to open the box, and with just one more plastic bag to remove, I finally was holding my new Ranga.

First impressions.....she a big girl! Bigger than my Peliken M1000, fatter than my Delta Colosseum, actually my biggest pen to date.

Despite being big, not hard to handle, I usually don't post. So for me, the size in good.

I examined it in close detail, and, perfect. Threads good, everything fits nice, parts aligns up well and the finish was great.

The colors are fun, definitely the most unique color in my collections. Material is good, no pits or holes.

I got it with the JoWo nib, knowing that I could replace it with something that ....has a soul.... at some point.

The nib was a little on the dry side, and I quickly opened it up a bit, and now it writes like what you would expect from a JoWo.

So to sum it up,

I am very happy with the whole experience.

I not only got a nice pen, but made a cultural contact with another part of this wonderful planet.

Thank you Mr. Kandan, for the small adventure.

And I will gladly spent the money to support a small company making pens, best of luck, Ranga.

I have also received my Pens as well as a bonus pen. I'd post photos, but live in Beijing and had the pens shipped to Canada in anticipation of a trip home next month. The wait is killing me. A family member did send a very blurry photo that did nothing to appease my curiosity.

It was fascinating to read your report, thanks much. It gets even more interesting when you factor in the journey of the bare ebonite rod from USA to India, and after being made into a pen, it travels back to USA.

Best

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
