I've not heard of one in Peoria. There was one more downstate but I'm thinking at least an hour east of you - maybe it was Bloomington? I haven't heard of them meeting lately either. If you get one going maybe I can coincide it with a visit to my brother in Pekin. Good luck!

PS - I arrange the Chicago Pen Club

I've head of one in Champaign, but don't happen to remember the details. Seller on eBay (penguy34) told me about it.

In Fort Madison (about 2 hours from Peroria) at the Sheaffer Pen Museum we have a meeting every 2nd Thursday. I believe August we are having a Picnic for former employees. We are also open 10-2 Monday and Friday, and would be glad to have you come if you haven't.

We have a nice club in Champaign, IL called "Pen Central". In fact, we are meeting tonight at 7:00 PM at the News Gazette Building in downtown Champaign.

If you are in the area, feel free to join us or contact me for further information and I will put you in touch with one of the officers.

Topic for this evening is "Do expensive pens really write better than inexpensive pens? Bring your limited editions and Esterbrooks, etc. and we'll compare and find out".

Hey, that sounds like a great group, and I have Esterbrooks and plenty of inexpensive pens that write as well as the expensive ones. I bet you had a good meeting with that topic. I would be interested in knowing about the next time you folks meet. Thanks!

I moved to Illinois recently from California and would love to visit the Sheaffer museum. Thanks for the invite!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
