What a collection!

You can add Diamine China Blue, Sheaffer Blue and Visconti Blue on your wonderous list - although none were a match to the PPS

WOW. I had started to make a list myself, but I was not nearly as thorough. GOOD JOB!

Would I sound entirely crazy if I mentioned I intended to drop all the scans that Amber posts from the reviews along with the people who post their own and drop it into PS in order to compile a master list of samples? Then I realized it was already 2 AM and one should not be contemplating such things at an early hour! Especially not if you need to wake up early the next day

Here's mine:

The Shumi No Bungu Hako (and KN Garrulus Lidthi, which is quite similar to my eye) is the closest of my inks.

@Gylyf: Is the KN Garrulus Lidthi on your review? I cannot find it. Not sure whether to include it on the list.

It's not, sorry for the confusion! I didn't have a pen inked up with it and I ran out of room. I'm pretty sure I saw someone in the thread mention that he/she would be doing it, so I did the Shumi no Bungu instead (that was before seeing it had already been done...).

Anyone out there have some KWZI No 12?

My swatch, in real life, looks EXACTLY like Amber's PPS on her paper.

I did Shumi no Bungu as well (post #117). It is close, but I think Kobe #37 is a better match. I think the colour/cream tone of Amberlea's paper may have an effect on the matching.

I saw you'd done Shuni No Bungu after I'd posted my scan. I thought I was being so clever, but you beat me to it ;)

Unfortunately, I don't have any #37 to compare to the Shumi and the Garrulus Lidthi, but the latter two seem nearly identical to me, with the KN having a touch more purple, maybe? In any case, on the white paper Amberlea sent me, the Shumi and the PPS seem very, very close. At least, it's the closest of the blues I have.

This might be the MIGHTIEST comparison of blues on earth. Amberlea, it's EPIC.

There really is only a very small difference between Shumi and #37. Both are close to PPS, but I detect a teeny tiny bit more magenta in the colour balance of Shumi.........maybe! :-)

Tas, are you going to join in???????

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Fabienne, to answer your question, I started to draw some little boxes, but the short version is yes, I will send you a "form"- as in one of the 40 sheets of paper I doodled with PPS. It should have gotten to you already, but soon.

Nevertheless, I did write an answer ...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
