Recommendations For Wet Wine-Colored Inks?

Hello!

 

I recently purchased a Platinum 3776 Century in Borgogne with a medium nib. Gorgeous pen! I also purchased some Noodler's Black swan in Australian roses to go with it. Individually both are great, but my pen writes dry and the ink is dry and the combination is very bad!

 

Can anyone recommend some juicy wet inks that fall in the wine/burgundy range? I know of many that are popular, but I am unsure of which of them are nice and wet. I welcome the wettest ink available!

EDIT: It breaks my heart a little that the combo isn't working out because I really love the shading and the saturation in the ink.

From inks that can be easily bought online Diamine Syrah is good choice indeed. I enjoy also De Atramentis Black/Red, Rohrer & Klingner Alt Bordeaux is rather "dry" and it will need very wet nib to show some class.

 

I remember I've enjoyed Noodler's Burgundy sample.

I find I can often help flow by flushing a pen with a tiny drop of dishwashing soap in the water. You also have the opportunity to find an inexpensive pen with maybe a bit of flex for the Swan ink. That's always fun.

Yes! It's such a beautiful ink! I did some flushing too. I am thinking of buying some PR Tanzanite for the pen until I get more info on a wet burgandy ink.

On Goulet Pens' website, Noodler's burgandy has a high "wet" rating. Did you find this ink to be very wet? How would you compare Syrah to this?

 

Lately, I am thinking that maybe Japanese pens are not suitable for my preferences in a nib. Every Pilot I have bought and my Platinum, I have had to adjust the flow(tight tines) or the nib. My Metropolitan had baby's bottom. I generally like pens with little to no feedback, so I think European/US pens are the way to go? I have been very satisfied with my Parkers and Lamys and even a Duke pen that I bought off amazon for 12CAD that surprisingly writes like butter. Japanese pens are gorgeous, but I find that the nibs don't give me that smoooth writing that I am looking for.

I would recommend the De Atramentis Wine Series, I know they have Scottish Whisky and Merlot in there.

 

EDIT: They're supposedly made with real wine, but hey, keep them for your pens and drink the 100% wine kay? :lol:

If all you need is for the Aus Roses ink to be more wet, then just put the absolute tiniest, most insignificant amount of detergent (dishwashing liquid, or PhotoFlo) in the ink, and it will dribble out.

Those are gorgeous indeed! Would you rate them as wet inks?

Just don't overdo it and try it with a small batch of ink.

Maybe you prefer a rosé wine (R&K Fernambuk) or even a white wine (R&K Alt Goldgrün)

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
