Murasaki Shikibu (Japanese Beautyberry) - CRV - Group Review - 2015-06

The Iroshizuku Group Review color for June 2015 is Murasaki Shikibu ”Japanese Beautyberry”. It is a clear purple, neither blue nor violet, light enough to be usable in large areas but not too thin to read with a fine nib.

Please post your reviews and scans of the ink in this thread.
If you want to a partner for a Co-Razy View (CRV) of this ink, please write it up and mail it to Lou Erickson. (PM for the address.) If you want to do a Co-Razy View on your own, please do! Other reviews are welcome, too.
You can look at the full description of the Iroshizuku Group Review to see how this should work and what we’re doing.

Thanks to Rachel Goulet, who gave permission to me to use their beautiful product photo and swab.
More thanks to Amberlea who is always such an inky enabler.
Please PM me with any questions. I look forward to seeing everyone's results! :)
I apologize for the lateness, as it has been a busy month. I hope everyone's been having purple thoughts!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Done with a folded nib on Tomoe River paper

Written in a notebook that's not especially ink-friendly, but not terrible.

The same notebook. It's where I put my unending ink-related thoughts.

And sheen, because a folded nib dumps a LOT of ink on the page, and we might as well enjoy it, right?

ChewyTulip, your expertise is needed, can you talk to us about folded nibs?

Oh, I love the Karas Kustom Ink pen too! It's their pink one, which looks waaaaaaay more magenta in real life than their photos. Happily, I am also a fan of magenta!

AH, yes, I have a pink and violet which are still visiting Art. I miss them. Right now, I have two greens, an orange and an aluminum on my desk. Great pens.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
