Sometimes You Get Lucky

Several little things had gone wrong today, so when I went to pick up a package from the post office I was convinced the Boheme it contained was going to be a fake.

The eBay seller obviously wasn't a pen specialist, the photos weren't great, and it was advertised as a used Montblanc pen, no box. But it was a bargain, and returns were accepted, so worth a punt, I thought.

So I was surprised when I opened it to find the pen indeed had no box - instead it had been sent in a two-pen Montblanc pouch!

It's not in good condition and has been well used - any ideas on reconditioning it?

But the pen does seem to be genuine, and despite still having a cartridge in - who knows how long it had been in there - it wrote first time.

Bohemes have been a lucky pen for me!

I chose my user name years ago - I have no links to BBS pens (other than owning one!)

Congratulations - it's nice when things work out your way! BTW, what Boheme did you receive?

FWIW, the Boheme is not an old pen, so I think that MB will probably still have a supply of parts to replace those 'well-loved' parts on your pen if you sent it in for basic servicing.

Thanks - yes, it's the case that's showing signs of being well-used, the pen is much cleaner than I was expecting. It's a Boheme Bleu - I'll try to post some pix when I have a bit more time.

Oh, and ahem, I'm a she!

Changed it ;), then yeah leather cleaner + conditioner is all you can do, my sister got some from Vélez for her bags but it's a Colombian company probably not in england, perhaps something like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Renapur-Ltd-Leather-Balsam-200ml/dp/B005EBNZTI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1435022072&sr=8-2&keywords=leather+cleaner+conditioner

LOL I was just going to suggest using whatever you use on your tack (I assume you ride given your profile pic ;) ) My favourite leather restorer is Ko-Cho-Line - still the best stuff I've ever come across. It brought back to life some stirrup leathers that I thought for sure I would never be able to use again and would end up in the garbage. Congrats on your pen! That's awesome that it wrote on the first try!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
