Windows....in Fp, Not Computers....

I've developed a (small) obsession with pens which have that wee window at the top of the barrel: my one and only Mont Blanc, a sweet wee 'rescue' pen(it arrived in a bunch of assorted pens; had no idea what it was. Gave it a glean and some TLC and it's a little sweetheart) ....it's a 254....

 

anyway, I'd love suggestions about any pens which have that wee window. I just love seeing the ink slosh in there.....

Most of the regular model Montblancs have ink view windows and do almost all Pelikan. Many Sheaffer pens from the late 30s into the mid to late 40s also had similar clear places on the section to let you see the ink. The striated Balance and later Triumph Sheaffers were also transparent so that on the plunger filled models you could see the ink inside the pen.

The Parker Vacumatics and later stripped Duofolds were similar designs. Vintage Aurora piston fillers had an inkview window.

 

Means of checking remaining ink levels were pretty common so there are many, many pens you can collect.

And modern Lamy Safari's and AL-Stars have window cutouts in the barrel so you can see the ink. Not so "wee" but definitely a window.

 

I'm particularly fond of the old Sheaffers, and when you find one with good transparency, it's pretty amazing. Same with the Parker Vacumatics.

Pelikans of the 1960s are good candidates, the "New Pelikan" models that all look like the contemporary Pelikanos. 1950s Faber-Castell/Osmia pens are also good in the piston-filler category. Touchdown Sheaffers from the turn of the decade, and the 1940s lever-filling stable-mates of the items Jar shows above... and the Lamy 2000, too.
