Fake Lamy Safari Review

Chef Boyardee

Recommended Posts

I bought one out of curiosity, a turquoise one. I only paid $8 for mine: I wouldn't have shelled out any more for it. It writes ok, but the plastic is absolute gash. The prongs that hold the converter in are cracked already.

Caveat emptor, indeed. Don't buy a Lamy Safari from China, first of all. Second, stay the hell off of Amazon for buying pens.

Edited for spellins.

Awesome and informative review. Thanks for educating us on counterfeits. I was suspicious that my old Safari pen was a counterfeit due to brown colouration instead of a pure matte black.

However, after reading this review it seems more like a real version due to the nib appearance as well as the condition that it writes as great as what people generally praise about Lamy Safari pens, I guess I should feel lucky, I'm in Europe where I can't find many suspicious sellers selling counterfeit at cheap costs with a converter!

I'm pretty sure OP didn't just waste money on a fake just to educate us, knowing that this exact same pen can be had with shipping on eBay usually for around 25 or less. If he actually did when the real pen is only a few bucks away then..I am speechless..

This doesn't make sense. Do you have some reason for doubting his word? Do you think he faked the pictures he posted? If so, what would be the point of that?

I don't think he faked the pictures, I'm simply saying I think he realised it was a fake after he purchased it. I mean, who purchases a fake intentionally with cartridges and converters as well to go with it? A real one for the price of a few cups of coffee, who would purchase a fake? Even if you got paid minimum wage, the price of a real one isn't much more than a few hours of work..I just don't see why somebody would intentionally buy a fake pen just to educate the rest of us..But if that were true then kudos to OP.

Found this an interesting post, thanks. I dislike fakes, and this highlights some of the reasons why. The lack of value, despite the cheap price. The fact that some people will be ripped-off. Concerns over workers' conditions. Brand damage.

Very interesting post...

A genuine Lamy Safary on not much more in cost, and at lease you have the pleasure of owning authentic! Don't buy fake. It is really not worth it.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
