Hey all,

So I am pretty new at fountain pens. I currently only have 3 pens, but only really use 1 at the moment.

Pens:

Pilot Metro (current and favorite atm)

Pilot Custom 74

TWSBI Vac 700

Reason I'm posting is I am looking for local groups I can travel to to meet new people, and a reliable repair guy for FP's.

Both my Custom 74 and Vac 700 need Nib flow adjustment and I am too afraid to mess something up on my new pens!! I actually have not really been able to write with the 74 or 700 because the tines are too taught/close together so i have to exert too much force to get a nice flow going.

Any recommendations on where I can get my FP nib tune near the SF/Livermore area? I have not been able to find many current posts about reliable repair shops/guys.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!Look forward to meeting you guys and becoming a fountain pen aficionado.

Sincerely,

Crushin

Welcome, Crushin !

Sorry that your two nice pens are misbehaving. Isn't it interesting that the reliable "workhorse" pen is the one that cost $20 ? :wallbash:

In my collection, I have a dozen low-grade fountain pens, of unknown brand or no-brand. They all function reliably. The Arnold fountain pen is from 1950, and had a new price of 15¢ . I hated it when the wife asked, "So, what did you get for the additional $150 ?" :lticaptd:

Write with joy.

Crushin, I suspect that after you've read these forums for a few months and watched a few tube videos you might be in a position to try some basic adjustments yourself---but please start with some inexpensive Chinese pens. (You'll find a list of the very best ones in the 'Chinese' forum.)

Welcome to FPN. You should consider the upcoming SF Pen Show:

They have a website, also.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

The SF Pen Posse meets in Millbrae.

Watch the clubs section for meeting announcements.

As was mentioned, the San Francisco Pen Show, is on Aug 28-30 in Redwood City.

Save your $$, it will be like being a kid in a candy show.

Last year was my first show, and I was in shock and too slow to buy several good deals, which slipped through my fingers.

Hi Crushin welcome aboard - I am a new member to and I was made feel very welcome. Sorry I don't live in the USA so I cannot recommend a repair shop to you.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
