Nostalgia - Bung Box

Bung Box is japanese retailer. They offer wide variety of pens and inks. Also Sailor makes some exclusives for them.

When I first saw internet samples of Nostalgia I thought "wow - This is the One".

I wanted to try it. Cyber6 who is amazing ink enabler send me a sample. I'm really grateful because she's spared me disappointment. Yup. It's the first time I kind of dislike the ink I enjoyed so much on scans. And scans weren't bad, they were fairly accurate. It's just the color lacks richness and depth on most of the papers. I see no reason to pay 40 $ for an ink that looks good only on best papers.

I'm kind of undecided. I bought a bottle of this a few weeks ago and haven't had the chance to use it yet. It really does look very nice in scans and in your review. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the review. I bought a bottle of this a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't opened it, yet.

Oh no, Vis, I had hopes that this one would make you and Cyber6 grin from ear to ear.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I am sucker for Browns... and I do love this one.  I usually use good paper.. so maybe that is why I like this ink.

In this review, Nostalgia looks beautiful. Maybe I'll see it in person at the SF Pen Show.

Vanness Pens says they'll be there with their Bung Box inks. You can even order in advance and they'll bring what you want.

I just read that, but I've also been looking at Octopus inks - Pinie and Karamell.

Oh inks... why do you have to be so appealing?

Excellent review. Especially the 18 comparisons, and done like that and not just swabs.

I too find the ink okay but not good enough to buy it.

To quote you: "I see no reason to pay 40 $ for an ink that looks good only on best papers".... what a good motto! I think I'll give up on coughing out my money on ink like that plus on an ink (brand) that is such a pain in the ahh, y'know that it not only costs that much in the first place but then is finally so hard to order and get and end up having to pick it up from customs too....

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
