Does Souveran M 600 Have Fine Nib 18C-750?

Hello,

I am pretty new in the fountain pen collection although I am using fountain pen since I am 15. I recently bought Pelikan Souveran M 600 with a fine nib but as far as I see on the reviews all the series up to M 800 have 14C nibs. And I am pretty suprised when I realized my nib is actually 18C-750. I am not sure if the nibs of M800 or M100 is interchangable with M600.

Should I feel lucky on that? :D

Thanks for replies!

Welcome to the forums. The M600 has a bit of a history that is unique in Pelikan's line-up. There are two versions of this pen as it was redesigned in 1997 to better fit the range. The pre-1997 version was smaller than today's M600 and would likely have indeed come with an 18C-750 nib while all modern M600's since that time come with 14C-585 nibs. The two versions of M600 are easy to distinguish when you know what to look for. Rather than go into detail here, check out his link which should help you out. The M800 and M1000 nibs are not compatible with the M600 so your pen likely has one of the older M600 nibs. Pictures are always very welcome.

Besides what Sargetalon said, there have been some M620 pens - M600 size with 18Kt nibs. These were the City Series and Famous Places series. Maybe there have been others, but those are the ones I know.

Thanks Sargetalon! But now the situation become more interesting. Size and diameter matches with the post-97 models. The cap is not painted or pre-97 etched style but it is furnished with gold (etched) so it looks like 2010 and later style.

But the nib looks like 90'-97' style.

Pretty interesting.

Here is a larger image of my M600.

I think you got it figured out pretty well. New style M600 barrel and cap likely made 2010-present given the plated cap top. Somebody swapped the original 14C nib for an 18C one. Nothing wrong with that. Enjoy your pen!
