I just got my ink samples from Ink by the ML today.

Going to be testing:

Diamine Deep Dark Purple

KWZI Violet #4,

KWZI Violet #2

Organic Studio Roosevelt's Midnight

I also got Diamine Red Dragon and Diamine Oxblood but those aren't purple haha.

but also those who pretended not to notice. It was my friend.

What fun. I did a side-by-side comparison of R & K Scabiosa and Diamine Grape this morning and can tell them apart but just barely and only in strong light.

Huh. I didn't think they were very similar at all honestly.

Alright, I spent about a week using a couple of the inks that I have gotten samples of and I really like the inks that I ordered.

KWZI Violet #4 is an incredibly vibrant and retina searing ink. I really love it. Very Bright, REALLY stands out from the paper, incredibly enjoyable.

KWZI Violet #2...I've had some weird issues with this ink. It's a purple ink yes, but I've been getting changes in color when using it in some of my pens. I don't really know why, it could've been some left over ink in the feed. It seems like the color has now become consistant and its a nice blue toned dusty purple. You can actually see it as a blue-black ink actually.

Diamine Deep Dark Purple - I was surprised by this ink. I usually don't favor red tinged ink, but I actually like this ink. There's a lot of shading in this ink, going from purple to dark purple to black. It really grew on me after using it for a while.

I haven't tried out Organic Studios Roosevelt's Midnight yet so I'll try that soon enough.

Hello,

So purple is my favorite color but I don't really like Brighter shades or red tinted purples. I tend to prefer darker shades of purple/violets and started liking blue tinged purple inks.

I tried out Pilot Iroshizuku Murasaki-Shikibu as one of my first purple inks and although I like it, It doesn't fit my preference for me to be using it everyday. I have tried out Diamine Eclipse and Diamine Grape. Diamine Eclipse seemed too dark and the purple barely seeps through and Grape is a little red tinged for my liking.

The two inks that I have fallen in love with and actually use in daily usage is Sailor Jentle Shigure and Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine. Sailor Jentle Shigure actually fits my dark purple preference. I fell in love with that ink as soon as I started writing with it. It's easily my favorite ink. Ultra Marine for some reason speaks out to me even though it's a little bright. I consider it a blueish purple. Ultra Marine is my second favorite ink.

These are the pens I have inked up with:

Pilot Custom 74 in Violet - Sailor Jentle Shigure

TWSBI Diamond 580 AL Violet - Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine

Pilot Metropolitan - Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine

I was thinking about trying Bung Box Ink of the Witch but that's a little hard to get. I was also thinking about Kobe Ink #32 Tamon Purple Gray, but I don't really know.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

I think u should try Diamine Majestic Blue (very dark blue ink with red sheen. It has a bit longer dry time and is prone to smudging a little even after dry) or Diamine Sargosso Sea.

A couple more suggestions:

DeAtrementis Aubergine

Private Reserve Ebony Purple

Akkerman #6 Courtyard Blue (a blue that leans purple)

And several of the KWZ inks as illustrated by our chief ink enabler and moderator, AmberleaDavis. Akkerman and KWZ inks can be ordered online from Vanness Pens. DeAtrementis can be ordered from Goulet and Anderson Pens. Photos attached.

I am too. I just sent an email to Mike @ Vanness asking if they'll be getting it in soon. I'm not really a purple lover but this one is awesome.

I just got an email from Konrad and he said that he currently does not have any Violet #4. Production of this ink, will be resumed after the summer. So that's a bummer. I ended up getting more samples of Violet #4 from INK by the ML to satisfy my cravings until he makes more.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
