Any Recommendations On A Good Blue-Purple/dark Purple Ink?

Hello,

So purple is my favorite color but I don't really like Brighter shades or red tinted purples. I tend to prefer darker shades of purple/violets and started liking blue tinged purple inks.

I tried out Pilot Iroshizuku Murasaki-Shikibu as one of my first purple inks and although I like it, It doesn't fit my preference for me to be using it everyday. I have tried out Diamine Eclipse and Diamine Grape. Diamine Eclipse seemed too dark and the purple barely seeps through and Grape is a little red tinged for my liking.

The two inks that I have fallen in love with and actually use in daily usage is Sailor Jentle Shigure and Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine. Sailor Jentle Shigure actually fits my dark purple preference. I fell in love with that ink as soon as I started writing with it. It's easily my favorite ink. Ultra Marine for some reason speaks out to me even though it's a little bright. I consider it a blueish purple. Ultra Marine is my second favorite ink.

These are the pens I have inked up with:
Pilot Custom 74 in Violet - Sailor Jentle Shigure
TWSBI Diamond 580 AL Violet - Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine

Pilot Metropolitan - Sailor Jentle Ultra Marine

I was thinking about trying Bung Box Ink of the Witch but that's a little hard to get. I was also thinking about Kobe Ink #32 Tamon Purple Gray, but I don't really know.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

How about Cult Pens/Diamine Deep Dark Purple? Bit more of the colour you require than Eclipse. Akkerman's Voorhout Violet is a great colour too but perhaps not as dark. Diamine Amazing Amethyst is similar.

Diamine Bilberry and Private Reserve Tanzanite. They are both bluish purples. I especially like Bilberry.

Edited to add: Tamon Puple Grey is almost black when you write with it. Only when you have pen that lets the ink shade nicely, the light part of the line will look purplish black compared to the dark part which looks black. I don't think it would fit your criteria if you are really looking for visible purple.

If you have a look around in the Ink Review forum, or do searches for particular inks, I have done quite a few reviews on purple inks as I like them myself.

I like Diamine Bilberry as a blue/purple, but you might like Diamine Pansy or even something like Diamine Amazing Amethyst or Diamine Damson

My favorite purple-blue ink is PR Tanzanite. It's a good performer with a really nice color that can look blue or purple depending on the light and what inks it's next to.

So many inks, so little time...

I like the suggestions above. Noodler's Kung Te-Cheng is a indigo-purple with startling lightfast and waterfast characteristics. Amazing Amethyst is a great dusky purple, and Imperial Purple is my favorite blue-leaning bright purple.

I also like the darker purples. Two of my favorites are Montblanc Lavender Purple and J. Herbin Poussiere de Lune, although they might be too red-tinged for your taste. Another really interesting ink is Rohrer and Klingner Scabiosa, which is a lilac gray, not at all tinged with red, but highly variable in how dark it is on different papers.

I am starting to think that I got an anomalous bottle of Diamine Grape. Mine is so close to black that at work everyone has assumed it is black.

Thanks guys!

I just recently (by recently, I mean last night) ordered some ink samples from Ink by the ML which includes Diamine Deep Dark Purple among other inks.

I own a sample of Caran d'Ache Ultra Violet and I like it, though it doesn't really fit my needs in terms of a darker shade or blueish shade of purple.

I also own a sample of R&K Scabiosa. I like the dusty purple qualities of it. I've been meaning to try it out more on my EDC pens.

Noodler's Kung Te-Cheng was actually the first ink bottle I've ever bought. I thought I would like it, but when i started using it, it wasn't purple enough for my tastes, a little too blue. Though on certain paper and pens the purple does shine through. It's in a nebulous part of my collection so to speak.

I will look into obtaining samples of all the inks mentioned in this thread so far that I don't have yet:

Diamine Amazing Amethyst

Diamine Regency Blue

Diamine Bilberry

Diamine Pansy

Diamine Damson

Akkerman's Voorhout Violet

PR Tanzanite

(lol, a lot of diamine, Not that I mind)

On a side note, is there any interesting purple inks from Japanese companies? I own bottles of Pilot Iroshizuku Murasaki-Shikibu and Yama-budo as well as the sailor inks mentioned before.

Diamine Bilberry has got to be my favorite in this category. There is a LOT of gold sheen from it!

How about DeAtramentis Aubergine? Dark, on the wet end of the spectrum, shady in some pens, reasonably priced, easy to find, nice. Always in some pen or other.

I've started using bilberry a lot more recently.

It really is a lovely blue purple, which is showing its real colour now that it's in one of my drier writing pens.

In my wetter pens it appears really quite dark and the "blueness!" isn't as apparent.

Speaking of Kobe Ink #32 Tamon Purple Gray; I recently did an InkTest Tree with some a friend shared and I definitely want a bottle of this particular shade of purple:

I love this way of testing inks! And I love the purple color. Thank you.

If Eclipse is too dark for you and Kobe #32 is too light, then check out De A's Aubergine. Yummy!

There is another good blue purple from Sailor special store series by Kingdom Note, called Sasakia Charonda (O-Murasaki) which I enjoy. It's the latin name of this particular butterfly in Japan. I just remembered it as you mentioned the Japanese companies. I have a writing sample of it from another thread that I posted a little while ago. This ink behaves well just as many other Sailor inks, has great flow, and doesn't stain my demonstrator pens too badly. But purple inks are purple inks, I wouldn't put them in pure white pens for example.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
