Ink Review: Diamine 150Th Anniversary Silver Fox

Recommended Posts

I have decided to review some of my inks. These aren't necessarily in any particular order.

This one is Diamine 150th Anniversary Ink Silver Fox. I would call it a light grey. It doesn't seem to lean towards green or blue specifically. So it's a nice neutral grey.

It's a very well behaved ink with some shading. I found it flowed smoothly across the page, and had no problems with lubrication in the 2 pens I used. I must admit I didn't like the nib on the SMT and found it difficult to write with.

This ink exhibits no showthrough or bleedthrough on my thick paper, so I tried it on some cheaper paper.

It isn't a saturated ink, and a comparison with Montblanc Einstein shows that.

  • The water test on the review form shows this isn't a waterproof ink, but it's reasonably resistant for a short time.
  • Bearing in mind the paper I use is very smooth, and the nib used at that time was an Italic, this ink took 17-18 secs to dry.
  • It flows through the pen well and lubricates the nib well. I saw no skips or hard starts from either of the pens that both stayed uncapped while I swapped and changed, and did swabs and comparisons with other inks.
  • It is currently available in special 40ml cake slice shaped glass bottles.
  • Diamine sell it directly to end-users on their web-site.

Excellent review, Chrissy. I'm not particularly a fan of grey inks but I'm tempted to give this one a try. My favorite grey is Diamine Graphite but this one looks pretty good.

You're welcome. I haven't tried Graphite. I'm not usually a fan of grey inks, but I liked the way this one behaved. I'm going to try leaving it in a pen for a while to see if it stays the same shade or goes darker. I'll report back

Great review, and a good looking ink.

I've used Diamine Graphite and Diamine Grey, and the Silver Fox looks to be a shade lighter. Will have to try some out.

Thanks for the review. I have lots of gray inks, but don't use them very often. I have a bottle of this, I'll have to fill a pen, next.

I'm still trying to figure out how to list all my pens down here.

Not sure if this has been suggested already but would a setting for localized regions or chapters in FPN be helpful? I don't know if there is a way to find local FPN members who would be nearby. I don't know if we want to be discoverable but a setting to know how many members are in 25, 50, or a 100 miles of each other might be helpful. We can create a regions specific network like Craigslist where people could use that to connect with nearby members, conduct in person sales, arrange FPN meetups

Hi again all, I forgot to tell y'all that I made the post about Sweden ink PIF. Most have probably found it long ago, but here's a link, anyway:

I read your blog post and all the replies with much interest. I'm a FP user in Australia. Been part of this forum for years but rarely post. I did come across your ink sharing thread and considered participation. For me it's not lack of interest but lack of time to play around with FP and inks. I'd feel bad to put my hand up for the box and just have it sit until gosh knows when...   I also think that the FP community in Australia is smaller, and I wonder how many in the community are

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav
