Was at my local costco when I spotted this elegant little toolchest that would be terrific (imo) for pens. 8 Pull-out Drawers, Felt Lined Interior, Nickel Plated Side Handles, Hardware and Corners.

Amazingly it's available online as well, shipped free at http://www.costco.com/Trinity-Wood-Tool-Box.product.100153740.html

Anybody else pick one of these up for pens?

Enjoy!

I have the chest. It's great. I paid $99 for mine....at $39....it's a steal. Get it.

When I first saw it in December, I thought 99 was a great price but didn't buy because I don't have that many pens. Now I'm wondering whether to buy a second just because who knows...these pens multiply like rabbits.

I have a similar chest. It's amazing how quickly it got filled. I used the top compartment for a multitude of battery chargers. But it would hold a whole bunch of ink bottles if you wanted to do that.

Those Costco prices are a steal, grab at least one chest while you can.

Thanks penbrute! I had been staring at these last year for $99, but walked away. For $40 I just bought one. I appreciate you sharing.

I'm not a Costco member but they only charged me an extra $2 plus tax. Great deal. Thanks for the heads up!!!

You...you...enablers you! This will make a nice replacement for the several cheap plastic pencil boxes that I currently use to corral the herd. Thanks very much

Thank you very much for posting this information & to RogerRamjet for the information that non members can also purchase for the small surcharge. It is certainly worth the $2.00 to avoid going to Costco! I have never been in a warehouse club store & purchased ONLY the item I went for. I have been enjoying an antique tool chest but it seems to be "full" & I seem to be still buying pens so it seemed like a great idea. I certainly appreciate the "heads up" for such a useful bargain.

Holy catfish. At $40 it's worth picking up several to store all kinds of stuff, pens included. Gotta make sure to stop by Costco sometime this week. ;)

Evil enablers! I didn't know you could buy without being a member. Sigh...

For those that have this Costco model, can you tell me the inside height of the top? Trying to figure out how tall of an ink bottle would fit up there, or if bottles would fit up there?

Thanks in advance,

Moe

Your post made me go and take the box out of its packaging 'coz I was wondering the same thing.

3-inches clearance on top. Will fit small 30ml bottles but not the 50ml Iroshizuku types. However, the center drawer is tall enough to hold a few tall bottles.

Aside: Thought this find would be appreciated, and am happy to note that is the case. :-)

I was going to buy a big wooden pen chest from the UK thanks to an enabler here (believe it or not). However, I got a bad case of buyer's remorse and cancelled. But you, Penbrute, have totally messed up my resolve and I just ordered (being a Costco member). It will be delivered to me and I will be a penjerk deluxe. Ahhhh. And for $40? Mad good value.

In this case, there was no need for resolve, hence it went away. And the shipping alone on that box has to be steep...

I do have a question for those who use penchests. Right now my 15 or so pens sit in a huge mug. All were inked at one time or another-- many have run out while the rest are still packing (ink). I take it that only empty pens should be stored horizontally in penchests.

The site specifies free shipping if you order from the warehouse web page...omg...I foresee a new chest in my near future!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
