Buying Pelikans In The Us

Recommended Posts

I'm sorry if this is a repeat question, I didn't see any recent answers when I searched. I am looking to buy a M800 (not a special edition) and am looking around for a deal. Penbox (UK) seems to have them for $320 plus shipping, that's the lowest I've seen them. Is there a place I can find a lower price than this? Also, will buying overseas make getting support difficult? Thanks!

Well, any authorized dealer in the US will be priced more than $320.00 . You can try buying from the many dealers who advertise in the classifieds of FPN, and are located outside the USA, like Iguanasell, or Speerbob, etc. They might be able to hook you up woth a deal. But, keep in mind, if you buy from an overseas dealer, getting warranty service from Chartpak( Pelikan's reps in the USA) is going to e a problem for you.

Also check out these 2 reputable dealers: Rolf Theil or check for "missing-pen" and chec out: martiniauctions, both on eBay. Great service, and they wont sell you a fake, though, prices may be a bit higher that the $320.00 figure that you had mentioned.

If I buy from an overseas dealer can I get warranty service from the authorized retailer in that country? I'll definitely consider them, thanks for the advice!

Your best deals on an M800 will be from overseas most likely. As long as you are purchasing from an authorized retailer, you will be OK. Chartpak's policies have changed in recent years and now they provide service to all Pelikan's regardless of the country of origin. I personally confirmed that fact with Abi earlier this year. That's not the way it has always been though and it has gone back and forth, hence the confusion. As of now, Chartpak is servicing all warranty claims regardless of country of origin. Good luck finding a deal.

That's great to hear, thank you!

Well, Brian, I stand corrected. Sargetalon has confirmed. I like Rolf Theil, he is in Germany, and you will get a real Pelikan if you buy from him, provides good after sales service too.

huh?

I don't see $320. I am not sure where you are getting that price but search as I might that is not what I find on his site. Is there some special I am not seeing?

Here's a link: http://www.penbox.co.uk/souveran.800.htm

I'm assuming that 20% VAT has to be subtracted from that.

I see. Sorry, I misunderstood how that worked. I thought you would still have to pay VAT. Thanks for that info.

Not sure if this has been suggested already but would a setting for localized regions or chapters in FPN be helpful? I don't know if there is a way to find local FPN members who would be nearby. I don't know if we want to be discoverable but a setting to know how many members are in 25, 50, or a 100 miles of each other might be helpful. We can create a regions specific network like Craigslist where people could use that to connect with nearby members, conduct in person sales, arrange FPN meetups

Hi again all, I forgot to tell y'all that I made the post about Sweden ink PIF. Most have probably found it long ago, but here's a link, anyway:

I read your blog post and all the replies with much interest. I'm a FP user in Australia. Been part of this forum for years but rarely post. I did come across your ink sharing thread and considered participation. For me it's not lack of interest but lack of time to play around with FP and inks. I'd feel bad to put my hand up for the box and just have it sit until gosh knows when...   I also think that the FP community in Australia is smaller, and I wonder how many in the community are

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav

If one wanted to do this, one could just use the "About Me" field which appears to be unlimited in size.  And if a bunch of people wanted to cooperate, the Member Title field (or signature) could be used to this end - "Ink Giver" (or some such) could be used by those with inks to give...  No software edits required.
