Noodlers Blue Eel

On the recent hunt to find the perfect blue ink, I came across one I do like, Noodlers Blue. Is there any color difference between regular Noodlers blue and Noodlers blue eel, I've heard people say there is and some say there isn't. Personally, I don't know why just lubricant would change the color, but yet I'm only about 6 months into the Fountain Pen 'craze'. I want to use a lubricated ink because I noticed that my nib on a couple of my pens are a little sluggish and dry out easily, but dont want to loose that pretty Noodlers Blue.

I haven't used either of these but you can get samples of these inks from various places and try them out for yourself. The samples are usually good for one piston fill or a couple of converter fills.

The lubrication is to ensure smooth operation for piston-fillers. I have heard it also causes pens to run a little "wetter," but can not attest to that. That rumor, however, has caused me to give pause to putting Eel inks into my piston fill Pelikans as they are naturally about as wet as I would ever desire.

I have used Noodler's Black Eel in my Pelikans without problems.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I love both inks, but when I used them back to back, I found them to be different. Blue was bluer, eel was slicker (and slower to dry).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I like it. I use it in almost all my fountain pens, and 100% of my piston fillers.

Exception : Vintage pens should use traditional inks.

I agree with Sasha, my earlier post notwithstanding. I used to think it was just a particular 61 I was cursed with, but now another one that has landed with me and was a recalcitrant writer works much better with 61. So, I'll now stick with my earlier comment. Like an olive in a good martini.

Thanks for all the help! I'm just going to buy a sample from Goulet Pens and see how I like it!

I'll have to try this. I inherited a Parker 61, but gave up trying to use it because I couldn't get it to fill with more than a couple of pages worth of ink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
