Sky High Vs. Souten Vs. Kon-Peki

Venator, I am really glad that you find the comparison useful. But really, Souten is so similar to Sky High that I am sure that you will be happy with it. And if we're lucky, Sailor just might decide to bring back Sky High in a few years as they seem to be doing with their Jentle inks range (the cycle seems to be 4-5 years).

As for the Sailor ink supplier in Australia, I really haven't been successful finding any that sells these inks at reasonable price. So I always go to eBay for Sailor inks , and I can recommend seller called "cool-japan". Even if some inks are not in stock just contact Atsu and he can get them in for you in most cases.

There are also some sellers on eBay that sell the inks a lot cheaper but I haven't tried them so I can't comment on that. Good luck!

Thanks for the info SNAK. Sakura-kitty-japan is a Japanese e-bay seller whom I have used before and has recently begun selling the Jentle range. They have Souten for $28 shipped, but most of the others are around $23.

I have been buying more ink than I can keep up with lately but I am sure I will get around to Souten sooner rather than later.

Cheers!

This thread confirms that I will be buying Souten. I don't have a bright, cerulean blue, and I was torn between Souten and Kon Peki. They are both so expensive.

I just grabbed 2 more bottles of Sky High. My local guy has some old stock. Love this ink. Kon-peki has it's own charm but Sky High is the king of this particular mountain for me. Wins hands down on the sheen, shade and lube propoerties, though Kon-Peki is a tad wetter, it is also a bit lighter and less saturated. It also smells better but on every other test Sky High comes out on top. I also loved Summer Sky but have not see than one in ages.

I know, I have hoarded up on Sky High so by my calculations, I should be okay for about 7 years  , but I am hoping that Sailor will bring back Sky High in 4 or 5 years time like they did with Tokiwamatsu, Okuyama and Yamadori.

Thanks for your nice words Vaibhav.

I think you will like Souten, as I know you enjoy bright inks from your other posts. :)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
