With regard to parking, the Google map satellite view seems to show a pretty big car park around the hotel, so hopefully it'll be fine.

Hi Stephenthebear,

I second that said by both Beechwood and da vinci.

Pen shows are to be recommended and are a great way of striking up relationships with the regular Sellers. You will also be able to put (real) names and faces to some of the FPN name-tags you come across here, though our foreign cousins naturally go to the excellent London show. Some shows provide name labels at the entrance which should enable you to spot a fellow FPNer.

The Northern is one of the bigger shows, so plenty of Sellers and well attended and as such, you will find a good spread of pens from vintage to modern. I am sure you will even find some modern Japanese pens.

Please note, if you are buying, you will need cash. :yikes: Curiously, not many Sellers take plastic, so cash is king. There are however plenty of cashpoints in Chester (as I was last told by a Seller unprepared to budge on an overpriced Conway Stewart 100 -_-).

Hope to see you there. If you think 'American President', you will easily spot me ;)

Pavoni.

Excellent advice Pavoni

I have also resorted to making a PayPal payment via my smart phone when the cash was exhausted and an opportunity presented itself! 😳

A lovely time at the Nothern Show today - but bought FAR too much.I think I blew my pen budget for the year.....

As always, it was wonderful to see 'all the usual suspects', as Jimothy calls them. :-)

"Baldrick, you wouldn't recognise a cunning plan if it painted itself purple and danced naked on top of a harpsichord singing 'Cunning plans are here again'"

Whilst I (unusually) attended the Northern without the intention to buy anything this year, and succeeded, I had a good time bumping into the 'usual suspects' - nice hair again CasmiUK ;)

I thought the venue this year to be far better than the previous. A good location just off the motorway, with sufficient parking (I tend to arrive early). The show had an intimate feeling without being too small. Well done and congratulations to those responsible for putting the show on.

A very good show with some very buyable pens and enjoyable discussions with folks. Wish I'd brought more money with me but I guess there's a limit. (Did forget to buy a Targa from the gentleman from Sheffield, but that's on my to do list for this week.) Thanks to the organisers and exhibitors for a great day in a first class venue.

Another excellent show. Well done and thank you to the organizers and the dealers. A bit of a dent in the bank balance but you only live once and after my recent adventures at the hands of the excellent medics at The Christie Hospital I think I've earned it this year. See you all in Lichfield.

In omnibus requiem quaesivi, et nusquam inveni nisi in angulo cum libro.

Had an enjoyable time at the Northern show. Purchased a lovely Pelikan M800 from Twiss Pens - my first Pelikan. Also have a pen on order from Worcester Pens. Good to meet up with many of the usual culprits.

Thanks to Ian and Jeremy for arranging another delightful pens show. Now looking forward to Lichfield on 21st June.

Damn & Blast !!!!!! Just had a bolt from the blue about this and have found out tat I missed it by a few days :(

A wise man once said    " the best revenge is wealth "   but a wiser man answered back    " the best revenge is happiness "

The true definition of madness - Doing the same thing everyday and expecting different results......

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
