Hi I'm new to the forum and fountain pens, very exciting!I am a lover of rollerball pens currently and looking for a new classy type of pen. (Fountain pens)I have ordered a Lamy safari with a broad nib as well as a converter. (Due to extensive reasearch on YouTube lol) I had a question, what are your favorite inks/pens/nib sizes for newbies? I'm looking to start a collection if I like them. (Probably will ^^)

Happy writing!

Welcome! You are going to be here quite a while by your asking such a loaded question

This forum exists around the world, not just here. There are as many answers as forums and then beyond. I am also a Youtube person and have learned quite a bit from watching the videos from time to time. If you ever need to replace that broad nib for any reason with another, you will find a video on it. If you need to tune (alter slightly) your nib, you will also find a video of someone showing you how. Start slow. Enjoy yourself. Look around here for different forums to talk to different people with your same interests. You can ask questions throughout the forums. Believe there is even a Lamy forum. You are going to have fun! Peruse and relax, you are among fellow people who enjoy this interest. My favoirte inks are currently Iroshizuku and any red ink you can think of which is in existence. My favoite pens are in my signature at the end of this post. My favorite nib size are also included, but Extra fine is my exclusive preference. See, told you loaded. Enjoy the answers though. We love to brag and boast :W2FPN:

Welcome, PenGal !

The LAMY Safari is a great choice for you. You can try several of the changeable nibs for the Safari.

I suppose that my wisdom demands the answer "Try them all. It's fun." (I know that it is not as

helpful as you wanted, but it is not easy being a sage. :P )

Thank you! And I was thinking about trying all of their nib sizes! I figure it's a good way to have options as well as try out new ones :) Agreed

Thank you! And so I've heard, I was thinking of getting that next.

For any one wondering, I just got my 1st 2 pens:

Lamy Safari with a Broad Nib (a bit too broad for my liking but i will try to make it work)

Pilot Kakuno with a Japanese Medium Nib (my favorite so far and very smooth)

The lamy is equipped with a lamy blue cartridge because my converter isnt here yet... Im not impressed with the ink nor the nib. Seems i have to push down quite hard not to get any skipping. However i will try it with my Noodlers ink when i get my converter... (Update will be posted hopefully when i use up the cart.)

The Pilot Kakuno is equipped with a pilot CON-50 converter with Noodlers Blue. Extremely smooth and i would recommend it to anyone who doesnt mind its childlike manner. Especially beginners because the face on the Nib is a good reminder to keep it at that angle.

Happy writing!

Lol thanks!

By the way just an update on my Lamy Safari with the broad Nib, the pen its self is great, though a bit too broad for my liking. I'm getting a Limited Edition Neon Coral with a Fine nib next and will post about it when recieved. Also getting a few Jinhao cheapies (x750 Vivid Black and Night sky as well as a 250 gold/silver) i will try and post reviews on my pens once i get to know them.

Happy writing!
