Sailor Kobe Le Monet Violet

Thank you for doing this wonderful review! I was debating getting this ink because it's an LE, but I know I would not use the color much. I'm very happy that you reviewed it so I can have a taste of it through your writing samples, photos and beautiful splashes :)

That's what I thought too before deciding to purchase it. Finally the box won me over. :)

Is this as similar to Tanzanite in writing as it appears in your swabs? My wife loves Tanzanite, but I hate the behavior. I've heard it referred to as pen laxative.

I haven't compared these two in the same pen. I suppose they are similar. Tanzanite would be more saturated, a bit bluer and have less shading. Sasakia charonda is quite close too.

I took a photo of the comparison part to give you a better idea, since my scanner tend to make the pictures more saturated than they really are.

OK, that clarifies things. Not very similar to Tanzanite at all. So do you prefer the Murasaki?

Well between Monet and Murasaki I would choose Monet. I like its bluer hue more.

As I said you can try to replicate Monet by mixing Murasaki and Ajisai, since both are not so saturated. Or you can find a way to lower the saturation of Cassia. Actually I shall try it myself. These experiments seem fun!

Here's the result of my mixing experiment.

I have to correct myself. Diluting Cassia won't make Monet... I mixed Cassia with Blue Ghost by 2:3. The mixture got desaturated but it's too blue to be Monet...

However, mixing Murasaki and Ajisai proved to be quite a success. At 4:1 ratio it's quite similar to Monet.

The swabs on the right are all Monet.

Final result comparison: Murasaki-shikibu, 4:1 Mix and Monet.

Thank you, these reviews are excellent!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
