Not much, just want to say that I have made a terrible mistake and I now know what Waterman Tender Purple tastes like. Remember ladies and gentlemen do not pipette by mouth! Now I know what Tender Purple tastes like, it's not so tender. :sick: :( Blurraachh!!

 

PS: I did not do something like take a swig of the bottle, but I got a tiny taste of it.

Plistumi and TSA had a little disagreement after a pen show one year.

 

Note to self, ink is not good for you to drink..consume yes, drink no.

And that is why scientists (of recent schooling) do not mouth pipette. All you need is a little hydrochloric acid or botulinum toxin, and your day is totally ruined. *shudder*

This reminds me of some people having a severe reaction when they try to get gas out of a car (during the 70s gas shortage) by sticking a tube into a gas tank and sucking on a tube to get the gas flowing out and down into their gas bucket

Is Plistumi aware that some inks have a high gluten content

Are ink manufacturers going have to label their products as being for external use only. Is it only a matter of time until the ink makers start adding pot to their inks. We already have scented inks.

This is inviting the FDA to involve themselves further into our lives. More government interference. First it's alcohol (remember prohibition. There were more alcoholics then than before or after), then tobacco then curly-q light bulbs. Of course they're just protecting us from ourselves. "I'm from the government and I'm here to help" (Ronald Reagan, 12 Aug 1986)

Well actually (unless I got something mixed up) isn't hydrochloric acid technically the stronger acid? Hydrofluoric acid is more just "Hi Calcium! You now have a heart attack," while hydrochloric acid is "You're black goop." As demonstrated here:

Hydrofluoric acid is less strong as an acid, but it's much more dangerous, due to the toxicity of the fluoride. It causes bad chemical burns that are related not to its acidity but to the gas ripping everything apart. (It is painless, at first.)

 

You should not ever be leaning over an open container of hydrofluoric acid in the first place, much less exposing your mucous membranes.

It's been many years since I did anything in a chemistry lab, but it's still fun stuff to read about... And instead of hydroflouric acid, how about the more "exciting" and "interesting" chemicals that include fluoride - Still one of my favorite lines in a blog post " so if you feel like whipping up a batch of Satan's kimchi, go right ahead." :)

Only somewhat related, my husband had an accident one day and some green ink went all over our hardwood floors. they now have a lovely green staining in each of the cracks of the wood!

This is why I love this community! Every little story can lead to other stories told by other people, and in this case, totally change the topic.

 

Also, FOOF has one of the highest cute name to deadliness ratio. Another one being the slow loris, it kills with its cuteness (it's actually a poisonous monkey).

One of the side effects of this is that you may end up believing that Parker Quink Black tastes better than Vegemite, which is a truly horrendous consequence.

Since this topic has turned into a "science geek out type thing", I will say that I don't believe that pipetting by mouth has never been advocated by anyone, but is commonly practiced by many.

 

I have been "taking one for the team" attending a medical meeting in Hawai'i. One of the presenters was from the University of Nebraska, where they are equipped to take care of patients with Ebola Virus. He gave a presentation on the disease and its treatment. For many viruses one needs hundreds or thousands of viral particles to enter the body to develop the disease; for Ebola, it only takes ONE! Now that would really ruin quite a few days.

Alan Turing had nasty habit of doing that with cyanide mixes. It didn't end well.

I once knocked over a 2 ml vial of Oxblood. (thank goodness after I had closed up the 80ml bottle nice and tight)

 

The result looked like I'd sliced open a major artery.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off.
