As some of you may know Poland is one of biggest exporter of cosmetics, furniture and fruits. But we also have inks :)

Hopefully more and more inkthusiasts know what the four letters - KWZI - mean. They mean good ink, saturated color. The fruit of the passion.

You can check Konrad's site here.

Greengold is stunning. My type of color.

I have contacted Konrad to have samples of most of his inks (still waiting for his answer on postage). But I am quite tempted to get that green gold along, immediately.

Beautiful.

I would very much like to see this ink compared to R&K Alt-Goldgrun.

This looks to be a dark, more forest green version of Alt-Goldgrun.

For my eye most common thing that those inks have is name ;)

Alt-Goldgrun color base is yellow green, slightly more toward green, in my Green Gold base of color is light green with slight yellow-greish undertones and shading that is moved significantly toward yellow :)

I have a lot of tape - and I won't hesitate to use it!

Exactly.

From what I see Greengold has a green base, with yellow tones and yellow shading, while Alt-Goldgrun has a yellow base with green tones and green shading. Cousins of a different nature. (Who'd I love to see side by side)

I love natural colours like this with complex shading. They are my go-to-inks which I reach for whenever I start thinking 'what am I doing, do I really need all these pens and ink'. Load up a colour like this into a wet, wide, flexy nibbed pen and 'oh, that's why.'

You are the inker? My hat is off to you. Very good job with a very difficult colour.

There is an ink named "Join or Die"?

I must find out the backstory behind that one. Oh wait, its by Organic Studio, that small boutique USA inker that recently closed up shop. Too bad.

And visvamitra, thank you very much for this comparision chart of all these lovely green/yellow/brown inks.

Thanks for showing us the ink! I'm glad Konrad now has a website. I admit to being more partial to his IGs.

Just a reminder, reviews of KWZI inks, powdered inks that are no longer made, Scribes inks (limited run) all belong here in Th-Inking Outside the Bottle.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

KWZI,

I use iron gall inks almost exclusively in my pens. The ones I use most, Salix, Essri, Scabiosa, OS Aristole darken as they age on paper but with my pens they retain some of their color for a long time. I like this aspect to them. I have your blue #3 and your red #3. I like how they behave in my pens, but they seem to go to black immediately and don't retain much if any chroma. Is this a general characteristic of your inks, or do some of yours retain some color?

Thanks,

JasCas

Hi JasCas,

How fast IG inks darken and to what extent significantly depend on type of paper you use, wetness of nib and to some extent even water that was used to flush the pen - using slightly drier fountain pen will leave a lot more of initial color. Have in mind that most of my IG inks have better flow than almost any other IG ink available on the market that I have tried - so also amount of ink you put on paper in case of my inks is slightly higher.

Particular inks you mentioned are one of the most heavily saturated inks - those inks only by the dye component are heavily saturated, especially IG Blue 3 can easily go to black, but from my personal opinion IG Red 3 retain quite a lot of its original color and after drying and oxidizing becomes nice red-black. Other my inks - like IG: Turquoise, Greens, Gold, GreenGold, Orange, Mandarin are going to retain quite a lot of the original color.

I have a lot of tape - and I won't hesitate to use it!

KWZI,

Thanks for your reply. I agree that your IG inks have a higher flow rate than the others I use regularly. What is your opinion of acheiving reduced ink "speed" by diluting your ink with water and so reducing the amount of ink on the page?

Thanks,

JasCas

JasCas,

You can tweak the amount of ink put on paper by slowly diluting it - first I will suggest 10% of water, more if you will like to achieve more diluted ink.

Only one thing - tap water should not be used to dilute IG inks - please use distilled/deminaralized water - in worst case boiled and filtered over water.

Best regards,

Konrad

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
