Sailor — Pen And Message Cigar

I may be interested in a bottle depending on the final cost. Estimated cost?

It depends on the shipping costs from Japan. The per bottle cost is about $21. By the time it is shipped to me, then to you. . . I'm thinking/hoping less than $32.

Well, I don't need more ink... So count me in for a bottle when you order. Thanks!

So many inks, so little time...

Please follow this thread. I'll ask for entries after the final price is established.

Depending on the amount of bottles you order... it can be between $28 - $35... I think you can safely assume somewhere around $32.. but not much more than that.

IF by any chance you get charged custom fees (again, depending on the size of your order)... it can easily get to approx $38. Atsu (cool-japan) at $40 is not unreasonable.

Atsu must be wondering what the heck is going on with all the requests. lol

I just realized, there is now more than one person in the Portland area with Cigar. I wonder if we have the highest per capita bottles for a large city now. :lticaptd:

I have a sneaking feeling that Atsu is "laughing all the way to the bank" over our insane need for inks. My four bottles from him today represented a probable 100% (excluding shipping) profit & I am happy for him as I got ink easily that I wouldn't have been able to purchase otherwise. I find it wonderful that he manages to supply us without any problems & in an always gracious manner BUT I still imagine he thinks it is pretty funny. I am just grateful to have the opportunity to enjoy his service.

RAWR!!!!!! We shall dominate the world...oh wait, it's just ink (ok it is magical ink). Are you going to the meet up this month?

ETA are you in Vancouver or just across the Columbia? I'm just northwest of downtown.

I bought it through WRE but there were a lot of emails back and forth. Atsu is very straight forward (I hate coordination requiring a lot of emails-the peeps at WRE are lovely it's just my weird dislike over emails).

If it is on the 26th I'll try to make it. There'll finally be someone else there that doesn't think I'm insane for obsessing over inks so much. Plus, maybe I'll finally pick up my first vintage pen. I'm thinking either a 51, Vacumatic, or a Snorkel.

I live in Washougal, a bit east of Vancouver at the mouth of the Gorge. I love NW for photography, especially some of the older parts of NW Industrial. I had a lot of fun up there a year ago with a Minolta Autocord and some Kodak Ektar around Schoolhouse Electric.

My BF and I saw a parker 51 set in the original box this weekend. I think I should go back and get it for him-he's rather sad he didn't buy it. The pens were really beat up so I explained how he'd probably need to have them worked on and I thought the price was a little high so....

Then again I know squat about parkers so it might ahve been the steal of the century-but again they were really beat up.

Washougal is where the Pendelton outlet is right? If so, I've been there driving around!

I haven't even placed an order yet and I'm worried they'll stop making the stuff before I order again.

I've still got your sample in my favorite pen, by the way. Thanks again.

Opps I never responded-I apologize. It was my pleasure :)

Now comes the wait for the bottle to arrive. From Kobe. Oh, the romance of it all! And I have never tried this legendary ink... What pen will I use with it??

If you have to "wait for the ink" you might have time for a NEW pen to arrive! (However I just received my latest Cool Japan shipment in about a week.....so "not so long" really. BUT if you want an excuse for a "new pen" feel free! I doubt ANYone here can honestly say " I just didn't have a pen to put the ink into however."

Hahaha this website is the OPPOSITE of Pen Lovers Anonymous, it's more like Pen Lovers Enablers! 😁 but thank you - also for pointing me to Atsu

But this brings up the puzzling question why Sailor brews these magical inks but uses such crappy converters and doesn't have a decent piston filler or piston demo in their lineup.

I only want to "share the love" that I have received from my time spent here! And I later in the evening after the above post ordered YET another pen myself! One came in just this morning & with last nite's order I still have two more to look forward to. AND I "have my eye" on one that is a closing auction later today. Just want everyone to ENJOY as much as I do this hobby. AND I love the fact that you can store so many pens in such small space. (Inks have been a bit of a challenge for storage BUT so far I am staying ahead of it.)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
