Salutations ~

New to FP Network but not new to FPs. When I worked for the DC Metro, down the street from Fahrney's, I had a bad habit - every payday I would visit their store and pick out a new gem from Fahrney's vast and delicious assortment. Amassed a nice enough collection of MBs, ltd editions, and at least one each from most of the big names.... time marched on, one mortgage morphed into two and I could no longer afford my $500 a pp habit.

Well, I've been retired and living at the beach now for 10 years nearly, and I find that FPs no longer have to cost a car payment to write flawlessly and feel and look stunning on a nice chunk of stationery.

So now I get to discover a new generation of FPs and inks, with newcomers (to me at least) like TWSBI, Noodler, Edison, Lamy, etc.

Life is Good, and it truly does get better!

Hello from the north!

Current Wishlist:

Visconti, Visconti, and...more Visconti! (And some ST Duponts too). (Ok fine, getting on the Omas and Montblanc trains now too. Toot toot.) (And maybe on the Montegrappa one too, but only for the Miyas.)

Welcome and you have definitely (in my mind) identified an important quality of fountain pens today. Bought a third tier vintage pen, smoothed the nib a bit, put in a new sac, a little polish and it's actually a VERY nice writer that looks good to me.

After a certain amount of money one is paying for appearance, status/recognition and art/luxury. And that's okay if that is your intention. I don't judge anyone's purchases. I learned that when I started paying a lot of money for a "writing instrument" rather than use a freebie from one of the companies at the business expo.

Enjoy your time here and have fun.

Oh yes and remember to share your wisdom.

Thanks so very much for that warm welcome from places across the globe. That is the truly wonderful aspect of a network like this -- so many different folks from different places, unique viewpoints around a common theme.

Having fun digging out some of the older pens and introducing them to the kaleidoscope of new inks available now. Back then, 1980s-90s, it was pretty much blue black red green maybe brown.

Also found some old thrift shop purchases I had stowed away, only to dust them off and see vintage Esterbrook, Shaeffer, and one just engraved ALL -AMERICAN that I have no clue about -- and all of them still work great!

Having too much fun. Thanks again.

Welcome, Mare !

A new side to fountain pens can be the "low-budget" fountain pens, that are

suitable for students and drugstore clerks. Do you remember the Sheaffer

cartridge pens ? There are also many little-known-name fountain pens of

the 1950's to 1970's.

Write with joy.

Verweile doch, du bist so schön !
