Noolder's Golden Brown Ink Review

Ambrose Bierce

Recommended Posts

I figured the next logical move for my fountain pen hobby was to delve into flex pen, which will most likely turn into a very expensive move. With my Ahab, I figured I should get some super shading inks as well. The first up for review is Noodler's Golden Brown. I love brown inks, but usually much darker than this. This is now one of my favorite inks, the shading goes from a yellow to a walnut colored brown (which I would actually say is more drastic than Apache Sunset). The only complaint is that is smudges quite easily, other than that it is awesome!

This thing leaves some black residual in my pen after rinsing it out. Can be wiped away with some paper towel though.

good to know. not the smartest pick for a demonstrator then?

Nice review and good color! It reminds me of a super dark orange, as opposed to a brown. Will definitely be considering a bottle of this.

I haven't encountered any problems with this ink (but I don't use it in demonstrators.

Still it's an ink that is complimented very often, because it really looks unique on paper - the name is quite fitting.

Greetings,

Michael

I didn't really like #41 brown because I found it a little sickly, not quite as warm as some browns, and some of the colours I see there worry me about the same sort of thing. On the other hand, I love the shading I see there. Have you tried #41? If so, how would you compare the colours?

I generally don't like brown ink, but I make an exception for Noodler's Golden Brown. It's beautiful on the page. I really want to try it in my Lamy 2000 B. (Actually, that idea never occurred to me until I read your review, and now the pen can't empty out fast enough to try it!)

My only complaint about this ink is that in some pens, the ink takes on a reddish-orange character if it sits too long. Otherwise, I love it!

i have this ink. it IS a very ice brown. though i prefer it in a wet pen, or at least a medium line nib, to make the color tone deeper/darker, as i do find it slightly too light/bright for an everyday writing. but it looks awesome on a yellowish paper.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
