Scarlet Red - Camlin Kokuyo (Camel)

In May 2011, Kokuyo and Camlin came together to create Kokuyo Camlin Limited. They continue to offer inks and pens.

Scarlet Red is decent, vivid red ink that I enjoy using from time to time.

Cool very bright red....

It unfortunately is not so good friends with water though

Das leben ist wie ein Perpetuum Mobile mit ein Mangel..... Immer im Bewegung jedoch nicht unendlich. (life is like a troubled Perpetuum Mobile ever moving but not for ever)

Tricked throughout the centuries...

For centuries people had been tricked by kings & "religion-alism"

In the 20th century people got tricked by communism

Today people get tricked by (neo)capitalism :)

Hello Forum.

I have been using Camlin-Kokuyo's Camel Royal Blue for some time with no surprises. I decided to try their Scarlet.

I bought a bottle of this ink, Camlin-Kokuyo (Camel) Scarlet ink, from a lot packed in 04/2018, and marked as B No. 05.

At first I was really pleased with it. However, within the past year I noticed some coagulation within the bottle. Specifically, a film formed at the bottom. This film formed a sheet which could be lifted up off the bottom of the bottle with a syringe which I have been using as a sort of eyedropper to fill cartridges and converters.

I removed the film, poured the remaining ink into a clean container, washed out the original container, and put the remaining ink back into it. I hoped that this would be the end of the surprise. Unfortunately, it wasn't.

Within the past weeks, I noticed some irregularity in the feed of a pen. I looked at the pen's ink cartridge under very bright light. I saw some coagulation, a blob, sliding along the length of the cartridge as I tilted it. The blob was heavier than the ink, so when writing, it would go to the feed end of the cartridge. I emptied the cartridge and washed it out. I cleaned the pen and changed to another ink. The pen works as expected with Parker Quink.

Now I am looking for a bottle of good red or scarlet ink. I am afraid to buy more scarlet ink from Camlin-Kokuyo. So, I am casting about to see what Members here think of various red inks.

I think a good way to get started on that is to go through the Inky TOD for Red at https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/279273-inky-t-o-d-color-swatches-red-please-post-your-pictures-and-tell-us-your-thoughts/page-1. Then, for inks that look interesting, do a search for the ink name and you'll probably find some reviews.

Thank you for the guidance, XYZZY. That is very useful information.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
