Indiana Pen Club?

Hey everyone!

So, I was wondering if there is anyone in Indiana that might want to meet up for a pen club or something like that?
I'm in Bloomington, southern Indiana, close to Indianapolis.

If there's already a thread on this I apologize...the threads I've seen seem pretty ancient so I thought I'd start a new one and see who's interested :)

A bit late to this thread, but I would be interested. I am north of Bloomington but I work in Indy. I would think that there would be enough interest in Bloomington to start a group, but if not, I can start one up in the Indy area.

I might be interested too, but I will only be getting my first fountain pen for Christmas, so I'm a total beginner. I'm more interested in a group of people who have several years of experience and collecting. I'm in Trafalgar...Bloomington is a little far for me. Martinsville, Franklin, Greenwood, or Nashville...or even Trafalgar would be great for me.

Well im the sixth guy posted in here. But it has been a year since the thread was created. But half are from Bloomington. I would say Bloomington would make the best spot. It is an hr from me. But have no issues heading down. There are plenty of places ppl gather to converse there so a lengthy stay wouldn't be to much of issue I imagine. But being and hr away, I can only do it on a weekend status. Friday evening to sunday lunch time. Would be my window. Would a weekend time slot work for you guys. A place that serves food and alcohol would be nice. Been a while since I have been to Bloomington. Where would be a good place to meet. I know I free superbowl sunday. Dont watch the game. Lol.

It would be a bit of a drive for me. But I would definitely consider making a drive if the time was right.

Weekends would work best for me also! What about alternating locations?

I dont see the need for it. Because this is just idea phase right now. Really need some more input from others about where and when. Me and you BlueBus are the only double posters in the thread. Lol. Biggest thing I think is lead time to the event. I know once the weather warms up my time is more restricted as other events come to play. How much time does everyone need to make there schedule work. As far a place it can be determined. I said bloomington before as most ppl and were from there but only one has been active on the forum this year. But there are endless possibility here in Indy.

A few weeks notice would work for me. Also Friday night into Sunday mid day would work. I also have a friend that might be interested in a club!!! What about checking the facebook group The Fountain pen network? It seems to be more active.

If it were somewhere north of Indy it would be more likely I could make it.

I'm interested also.

I am currently in Dallas but will be moving to Crown Point (NW Indiana) in late march.

My only son lives there and we are moving to be near grand kids, etc.

Just looked and Bloomington would be a day trip for my wife and I so Weekends for sure on the date.

I have some cigar boxes that I line w/felt and use as storage boxes, currently out of them.

But if given enough notice (after the late March move, a couple of months) I could have a couple to sell if anyone was interested ($20 -$25 range).

Mostly looking to make contact w/others with my interests.

Gary

Gary,

After you move, we will almost be neighbors. I live in St. John.

Well a location for the most part can be secured about any time with a low amount of ppl. But how does april 2 2016 sound. It is a Saturday. Dont know of any pen shows scheduled then. And it is a while away. Hopefully enough ppl can plan for.

Just saw a post on Facebook about this thread and wanted to join in. I'm in So Indiana, just outside of Louisville. Bloomington is a good hour and half away from me... any chance we could do something in Columbus instead? It's right off the interstate and might be a bit more centrally located.

Totally missed that on Facebook book. Can u send it to me.

Really need more input from ppl about place. Indy is central to the state with ppl from the north and south to consider. But can always shift according to attendance.

Columbus might be a bit to far for me. I'll see what I can do.

I'm not sure how to get the post on here. It was a post about pen shows around Indiana though. When I get home tonight or on lunch I will create a Group on facebook and create an event. Hopefully it will make things easier. I'll post the link in here when it is made!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
